Join us for a conversation with filmmaker Afia Nathaniel, whose feature film, "Dukhtar" was Pakistan’s official submission for Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards®.
In a village in Pakistan, a young mother Allah Rakhi (Samiya Mumtaz) kidnaps her ten-year-old daughter Zainab (Saleha Aref) to save her from a child marriage to a tribal leader. Their daring escape triggers a deadly hunt for them. With the pursuers close behind, the mother strikes an unlikely deal with Sohail (Mohib Mirza) a cynical ex-Mujahid truck driver to take them to Lahore. Carefully dodging the far-reaching influence of the tribal leader, the trio embark on an epic journey through the sweeping landscape of Pakistan where the search for freedom and love comes with a price.
After a rousing reception at Toronto International Film Festival 2014 and in over 20 countries since then, the critically acclaimed "Dukhtar" recently screened in New York and Los Angeles from Pakistan for its one-week theatrical release.

Decisions, decisions, decisions! A good life depends on us making the RIGHT CHOICES! But, can you remember when you had a gut feeling, followed it and you were rewarded greatly? That was you tapping into your intuitive sense known as the “Third Eye”. We all have this gift. However, we must learn to use it. A highly developed “Third Eye” is not something we know how to access from birth, like sight, smell or touch. Nevertheless, it can be developed through meditation. Trisha Martin aka “the Prophetess Red Hawk” shares how she is able to tap into her generational abilities for herself and others in order to make choices that yield positive outcomes.

June’s Diabetes Late Nite podcast is inspired by Mark Ronson, an English musician, DJ, singer, and record producer.
Tonight we're talking about different strategies to help you get out of a 'food, fitness and diabetes' funk.
Mark's latest album, “Uptown Special” is considered to be his most inventive and vibrant work to date. The album is inspired by his musical beginnings as a teenager growing up in New York City in the early 1990’s and features the hit song, “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars.
First Lady Michelle Obama and Ellen DeGeneres performed a dance routine to the song with help from the So You Think You Can Dance all-star team on Ellen’s TV Show to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of her “Let’s Move” campaign. "We’re asking folks all across the country to #GimmeFive ways their leading a healthy life," Obama said.
The album was written and produced with GRAMMY® -winning producer Jeff Bhasker. The majority of the album's lyrics were written by Pulitzer-winning American novelist Michael Chabon. Mark Ronson's favorite living author, Chabon became a part of the songwriting process early on and was fully immersed in the album's narrative creation, often working with Ronson and the vocalists in the recording studio.
Tonight's guests include the Charlie's Angels of Outreach, Chef Robert Lewis, Mama Rose Marie, Dr. Lori L. Shemek PhD and Author Trisha Porretti, RN, BSN, CDE. Throughout the broadcast Mr. Divabetic will be playing selected tracks from Mark Ronson's "Uptown Special" album courtesy of SONY MUSIC.
When you think of AARP, do mobile apps come to mind? AARP is known to provide discounts to is members, provide branded insurance products, and lobby on behalf of Social Security and Medicare. Recently, this same non-profit has released two mobile apps - targeting the Caregiver community.
A caregiver is a term for anyone who helps or provides care to another individual, often a parent or spouse, in handling their daily activities. The caregiver can be paid, such as a nurse, but is more often an unpaid relative. And the person receiving care is often suffering an impairment, and/or dealing with health issues.
These two apps released by AARP (for iOS and Android) provide features designed to help in providing care. For instance, the apps help manage medications, keep a schedule of doctor's appointments and other medical needs, and create and maintain notes you want to share with the doctor. But will this work? Does this actually help someone take care of a loved one? Are these features unique? Are they really the features that a Caregiver needs?
On May 28th, at a special 11am EST/8am Pacific time, we will be joined by Trisha San Diego of AARP, who is the driving force behind the creation and release of these Apps, and we'll ask her these questions.
We'll talk about these apps and ask if there is a sign of things to come from AARP?
Tune in Live at 11am EST, Thursday, May 28th!
