How fabulous to have my friend, Bass Master/Composer/Teacher/Clinician/Mentor Christian de Mesones return to "Hybrid Jazz!" In previous visits, Christian and yours truly would discuss upcoming scenarios for Groove Skool, a group that has earned wide respect for several years. But our guest has NEVER been the kind of artist to let the grass grow under his Big New Yawk feet ;) He has plans for shows and projects - and thoughts to share!
This charismatic individual has been playing bass for over 30 years. At 18, he graduated from what is now known as The Musician's Institute in Hollywood, California. There, he had the opportunity to study with Abe Laboriel, Steve Morse, Pat Metheny, and Ray Brown - among others! By request from a famous faculty member (a guest of the school), Christian performed an original for graduation. And made Pat Martino extremely happy!
Thereafter, Christian served as superlative bass man for a number of groups - in Hawaii, Virginia and New York (of course!) In the mid-80's, he was a key member of "Twice Shy" - out of The Big Apple. Heavy Metal. Oh, yes, this man is known to be HYBRID, Baby! Multiple genres. A move to the South put him in the spotlight with Hip Hop and R & B acts - and he was the bassist for the popular "Big Patt and Legion" in Richmond - they were known for drawing exceptionally large crowds.
When Christian made the move to Northern Virginia, things came to a delightful musical boil: he was teaching, getting involved with students (ask him about his "Bass Symphony!") and creating the vibe for Groove Skool. Now, a BIG show for Big New York looms - the reason for his visit - and we hear that there's another recording in the future! Let's put it to you this way: his visits are never boring. LOL! Join us on 7/24 - in The Chat Room!
Est ce que c'est les hommes qui ne savent pas comment s'amuser avec leurs femme ou bien c'est sont les femmes? Pourquoi on préfère s'amuser avec nos copines or copain plus que avec nos femmes or hommes? Pour quel raison. I think we just need to rethink and understand more because our companion in marriage are the one for us. Why acting like a cat and rat?
We share the same bed, I mean everything, why not be happy together and enjoy your life while you're together. Love need to be show inside and outside, not just inside.

Pat focuses on identifying the root causes of her client’s symptoms and then tailors a specific protocol to enable her clients to work with their body's own innate self-healing intelligence, ultimately leading to wellness.
During our talk she spent considerable time explaining how candida, which is found to be increasingly more pervasive within society, is a major contributor toward myriad of health issues across the population.

Hier Premier Ministre Dr P.D.

South African singer-songwriter-guitarist Jonathan Butler is tending to his herb garden at his suburban Los Angeles home. Growing tomatoes, bell peppers, rosemary, sage and thyme, his new pastime that he says gives him “a new sense of heaven,” is part of a mindset he has cultivated that he has dubbed “the season of me.” The musical counterpart to this harvest season in the two-time Grammy® nominee’s life is Living My Dream, a bountiful feast of organically nurtured contemporary jazz instrumentals and soul-mined R&B vocal cuts—all original songs that he produced and tracked live in the House of Blues studio in Los Angeles.
“Each album is a page of your life and this is the season of Jonathan Butler, the season of me. It took years for me to be able to use the term ‘living my dream.’ I had to grow in my confidence and comfort and security first,” says Butler. “It’s one of those albums that I really didn’t think I had in me. I had been struggling, going through this emotional period. Last year was a transitional period. Once I got my wind and got back to a place of focus, it turned out to be the best experience for me. I had to be vulnerable to the songs. It was magical tracking the album and I felt surrounded by the positive vibes from everyone in the studio, especially [daughter] Jodie [Butler] and Dennis Dodd, Jr. They beat me up to write every day. They motivated and pushed me, and kept me focused. When others believe in you, it’s nothing to take lightly. Jodie and Dennis believed in me and I think we did something great on this album. I kept the production natural. These are all original compositions that came from the heart. It’s a classic Jonathan Butler album.”
Hybrid Jazz has always strived to show class, dignity and variety with each episode. What you'll hear on 7/22/14 takes all of that to a new level. Helen Sung has been captivating listeners - via recording or live - since she emerged on the New York scene in the late 90's. But I'm getting ahead of myself ;)
Born to Chinese immigrants in Houston, our guest was playing piano at five. Her teacher was strict and permitted Helen to play only Classical music - which she did throughout her education at the respected Houston High School of Performing and Visual Arts. Her motivation for college: to teach and to perform when possible. All that changed when she saw Harry Connick, Jr., on stage - in Helen's last year of University of Texas at Austin.
The transition was swift. Obsessed with visualizing Harry's fingers on the piano, Helen got a hold of Everything-That-Is-Jazz: from Jelly Roll Morton to Keith Jarrett. She received dual degrees in Texas, but her eye was on the inaugural program at the Thelonious Monk Institute in Boston. It was mutual love - Helen's unique talent was now under the watchful eye of Artistic Director, Ron Carter. She toured with the Cream of the Jazz Crop - across the water with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. It changed her life. And ours who are fans.
That move to New York cemented what many already knew, including Wynton Marsalis, who now has HIS eye on where Helen Sung will land next. Terri Lyne Carrington knows, Helen having been a key component in the award-winning "Mosaic Project" in 2011. The Kennedy Center realizes her power, too - she is a recipient of the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition.
Her sixth project, "Anthem For a New Day" is brilliant and brave. We could go ON for days about Helen Sung - but let HER tell her story: on 7/22/14 :)
