Our Time is Now 2014! Dream Catchers with Les Paul!
Our time is now not yesterday, not tomorrow, not any other decade or so in the future! It’s now and I mean it! Let’s make 2014 a banner year for survivors worldwide!!!
Many people have been fighting the fight for brain injury survivors and people with disabilities for a long time and yet sadly it seems that we’ve made little stride ahead, but I believe differently than that because I have seen and personally know people are fighting hard in the trenches, but we need more to join us in the fight!
I have the proof! There was no Brain Injury Radio Survivor’s Network, a little over three and half years ago. Now survivors do truly have a voice. But are we using it? The answer is yes no and all of the above.
What I teach where I work at Walton options as a peer supporter advocate is the person with the disability has the choices to make to live a self-directed empowered life will you join me, will you join me???
We as survivors have got to stand up and fight, starting now! It’s time to go to battle using kindness, peace and love, but words of strength. To do sit ins, act up, and even be willing to be arrested if it should come to that if we know were standing for a cause that is worthy injustice and it is join me now. Please call in tonight and tell me your thoughts and ideas to build a stronger survivor nation!
Can you really use games to increase your brain power? Every day we are bombarded with messages that suggest we can. AARP offers their members (all seniors) a discount on the Posit Science "brain fitness" program. Lumosity ads exort us to "challenge your brain with scientifically designed training. According to their website, the program is designed by neuroscientists. A quick trip to Amazon yields dozens of books all claiming to help you increase your brain power.
To explore what is fact and what is wishful thinking, Pat Salber, MD (@docweighsin) talks to Dov Michaeli, MD, PhD (@dovmichaeli) to get his perspective on increasing brain power. Can it be done? Do games work? If so any specific types of games? If not, what else can we do to maintain or regain lost functioning. This should be a fascinating discussion.
If you want to ask Dr. Michaeli questions, please call in on 347-989-8028 at about minute 15.
Folks, when it comes to living mentally well, we need to be connected to important people, places and things. We are social beings. For our own health, we need to develop and maintain healthy and balacned relationships and connections. Sometimes however, our connections become unbalanced, ineffective and toxic. Connections can drain us. Connections can hurt us physically, emotionally, and spirituallty. We need to know when and how to unplug from ineffective, unhealthy connections. Tune in for a discussion on this and even call in to share your thoughts.
Why is saying no to temptation difficult? Why can’t we just turn-off our insatiable cravings? Depending on the field of specialty, answers will differ. In this class pastoral counselor Kimberly will lay out an overview of the facts and connect them as an encapsulated explanation of addiction from a biblical viewpoint. She will explore the brain (which includes our mind), the nature of mankind, and the biblical doctrine of sin, to understand why we are an addicted people.

Are you a writer? Who answers this question, you or the world? Writing whether you do it for yourself or choose to share it with the world anyone can be a writer. Writing is a skill that requires exercise. Check what some well known writers say about writing that may help or inspire you: Wisdom of Great Writers on Writing
You may be wondering what to write about and the best thing to write about is anything you want. Famous writers have written and continue to write about:
Whatever sets off you anger
Your fantasies (Remember J.K. Rowlings or J. R. R. Tolkien)
Anything you've learned that may help society
How to do ____________
One important moment or event in your life
Experiences you still may not understand from life
Your daily life (Journaling)
In other words you can write about anything and for any reason. What you may find is that writing frees your soul of past pains, worries, or embarrassments. Writing essentially helps to shift strong emotions from your body to your mind. Expressing those emotions through the written word may help to prevent acting physically in a way that could be detrimental to others or yourself.
So get your pencil, pen, or computer and start a journey to potental self-reflection, wisdom, and or maybe a new career

This week on K9SK we will be talking with disc dogger Lindsay Thompson.
Lindsay Thompson is a multimedia designer, video producer and avid disc dog and disc golf competitor based in North Carolina. She began playing the sport of disc dog in 2009 and now travels with her two dogs to a variety of events along the east coast each year.
After several conversations with other canine disc competitors about the history and future of the sport, Lindsay made the decision in late 2012 to embark on a journey to develop and produce a documentary to capture the history of the sport from those who lived it. She began writing the initial documentary treatment as well as designing and planning the film's initial marketing materials.
As the sport of canine disc quickly approaches its 40th birthday, so are the originators of the sport growing ever so older. Before you know it, the stories of these competitors will be gone. Fly High: Story of the Disc Dog intends to capture and share their stories with other canine disc competitors and the world. For more information or to contribute to the completion of the film, visit www.storyofthediscdog.com.
