Dr. Raluca Vrabie was born in Bucharest, Romania, under communism. She lived there until the age 13, then emigrated through Austria to the United States.
She resides in New York almost the whole time since (high school at Stuyvesant in Manhattan, college at Cooper Union in the Village, medical school and residency at Mount Sinai on the Upper East Side). After travelling to Philladelphia for a fellowship at UPenn, she came right back to begin her career at Winthrop Hospital in 2010.
She currently lives in Forest Hills with her husband, whom she knows since high school, and started dating in college. Her Husband is Chinese and a programmer for the Intercontinental Exchange. They have twin girls.
She is interested in inflammatory bowel disease because treating it requires so many diverse skills: procedural aptitude, an understanding of the immune system, the ability to communicate complex concepts simply, etc. never bored at work. She thinks her patients are amazing people, for accomplishing all that they do with this disease burden in tow: marriages, children, masters’ degrees, spin classes, quitting IV drug use, divorces, moving to a new country, running a diner.

On this episode of Eating for Meaning, Dr. Millie will tackle one of the hottest topics in the nation; how to prevent and treat diabetes with food and nutrition. Many people may tell you food can only manage diabetes, but I will contradict that statement and discuss why medical dietetics are leading you down the wrong path. Regardless of of your genetic predisposition, you will get diabetes type 2 by eating the wrong foods, or drinking too much alcohol or juice. You can also, in many cases, you can reverse it. Whether you are taking medications, managing it naturally or at the prediabetic or borderline state, tune into to hear this show all about you.
Dr. Millie will interview experts in their field. This week Dr. Millie will interview Justine Lynch L.Ac, 5-elements acupuncturist and founder of Mountain, a hybrid healing space in Brooklyn. I look forward to hearing her food laments and inspirations.

Host Silvia Casabianca interviews Dee Martin, a certified kinesiology instructor with the Touch for Health Association. She has been a professional kinesiology practioner (Level IV) for 20 years. Has traveled throughout the U.S. teaching both professional bodyworkers as well as laypeople the simple but effective methods of Touch for Health to help bring the body back to its natural balance.
Dee explains the origin of Touch for Health, a modality introduced by John Thie, DC that combines applied kinesiology and acupressure. Thie believed that "the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States," citing the millions of people who unnecessarily take antibiotics, are hospitalized or are the subject of medical and surgical procedures. Thie recognized that his methods were not a panacea for all health problems and were not intended to keep people away from doctors, drugs or surgery when needed. But he saw those methods as a way to prevent needless interventions and lower healthcare costs.
Dee's workshops are both stimulating and exciting. “I have been a massage therapist for nearly 30 years and have found kinesiology techniques to be the best tools I have to treat the cause, not the symptom,“ said Dee.
Sport related injuries are common with pro-athletes and even college and high school athletes. Although some injuries can be abrupt, many injuries develop over an extended period of time when an athlete is constantly exerting stress on their muscles. To combat these long term injuries, researchers have suggested the use of Stem Cell Treatment to cure these common injuries. Although the use of Stem Cell Treatment has been controversial and many doctors debate its effectiveness, studies reveal that that there is potential to repair injuries with the use of cell-based therapy.
On this week's episode we are talking with Dr. Andrew Blecher to discuss regenerative treatments including stem cell treatment. Dr. Blecher received his education from William College in Massachusetts where he was an NCAA- All-American in Track & Field. After graduating from Medical School at Tufts University and completing his residency, Dr. Blecher joined the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation located in Ohio, allowing for more opportunity to work with high profile athletes.
Due to Dr. Blecher’s notable contribution and success in the field of sports medicine, he currently serves as a physician for teams of Los Angeles Valley College, College of the Canyons, and Notre Dame High School. He is also the medical consultant for ESPN as well as the treating physician for the Summer X-Games, the WTA LA Women’s Tennis Championships, and USTA Men’s Tennis Farmer’s Classic.
