Tavis Smiley’s 20+ Years in Broadcasting
In 1991, Tavis Smiley made his broadcast debut with Just a Thought, a one-minute “hot issues” commentary on KGFJ-AM/Los Angeles. Today, Tavis Smiley is the first and only American to simultaneously host signature talk shows on both public television (PBS) and public radio (NPR). In 2010, Smiley launched Tavis Smiley Reports, a series of primetime PBS specials that take him on the road to examine some of the country’s most defining moments. He has authored and edited 16 books, including New York Times best-sellers, one of which was published under his own imprint, SmileyBooks. In 2009, his alma mater, Indiana University, honored him by establishing The Tavis Smiley Atrium at its School of Public and Environmental Affairs. That same year, Smiley released STAND, his first documentary film, which he directed, co-wrote, and produced. In 2013, BlogTalkRadio launched their first personality channel, Tavis Smiley Network. Tavis has received numerous honorary doctorate degrees and TIME magazine has dubbed him one of the world’s 100 most influential people.
Mark Dickman returns to the RFA Octagon and holds down the co-main event spot at RFA 14 that goes down April 11th. Dickman is 8-1 and will meet undfeated grappling guru Raoni Barcelos (7-0) with the winner getting a shot at the featherweight title.
Flyweight Jei Saudino will meet Tyler Voth in a number one contender bout for the flyweight title. He's a Bellator and Titan FC veteran from Brazil. He's from Wichita, Kansas and has been in martial arts since he was 8.
Tyle Toner returns to the program. Tyler is a UFC veteran who is looking to even up his RFA record after dropping a decision at RFA 11.
Heavyweight Nick Smiley will stop in. This beast has won five fights in a row and is set to defend his Conflict promotions title in Savannah, GA on April 26th.

Travis Zimmerman, is a descendant of the Grand Portage Band of Ojibwe. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and Minnesota National Guards. Travis has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, and is currently the Site Manager of the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post and the Indian Affairs Liaison for the Minnesota Historical Society, where he has been employed for over seven years. Travis has been involved with American Indian nonprofits in Minnesota for the last 20 years; serving as a staff member and board member of dozens of organizations. Travis is a graduate of Native Americans in Philanthropy’s Circle of Leadership Program and in 2010, Travis completed a fellowship with the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries and Museums. In 2011 Travis attended the Seminar for Historical Administration-Developing History Leaders program that is sponsored by the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). Travis participated in the Blandin Foundation’s Reservation Community Leadership program in 2013 and currently is a member of the Programs Committee for the annual American Association for State and Local History Conference.
