The Breakdown returns tonight at 9pm PST (12am EST) with an all new episode. Tonight I'll be covering Black on Black Violence, Riots, and The Media. I'll also be addressing a few lies you're being told by some prominent "Christian" spokesmen.
— I got work done, but I also researched a bunch of newish personal interests (mostly programming and cycling), played an iPhone trivia game with my kids, read a bunch of online articles, and did very little of the writing I’d planned.
Digital distractions have also pulled me from reading and meditation in the last week. I think they plague all of us to varying extents.
Recognizing When it Happens
One of the insidious things about the distraction habit is we often don’t even realize it’s happening. It sneaks up on us, like old age, and before we know it we’re addicted and powerless.
See What’s Going On
Once you’re aware of the distractions and urges, you can start to examine the causes.
So you’re building an awareness, and you’ve examined your causes. If you haven’t yet, take a few minutes to walk around your office or house, or better yet get outside, and contemplate these things.
Considering What’s Important
What’s truly important to you? Social media? News? What everyone else is doing all the time? Games?

People say that they do this all the time but it more of a saying than a real practice? Is it one of those things that people just post on social media to make themselves look good?
OK, I have to re-re correct myself, for it was stated before the grand jury indictments, that State's Attorney Mosley had indeed accomplished this at the time she read the charges against the BPD6.
I was wrong, but only because of the errant reporting by the media.
In the meantime, have you read about how Baltimore is practically spiraling out of control?
38 murders so far in May, the worse is 15 years? Including the execution-style slaying of a 31-year-old woman and her 7-yeaer-old son?
Black Lives Matter? Great for a wall-hanging slogan, but apparently, for the lot of us, that's as far as it goes.
Any protests? Rallies?
As the trial of the BPD6 approaches, are the BPD partly to blame? After all, the reports are that they're either too demoralized or afraid, to carry out their sworn duty as police officers. According to the head of their union, the BPD is "more afraid of going to jail than getting shot">
MAYBE this is the best argument for a mandatory residency policy for all municipal workers, including (especially?) the police?
Do the DOJ's "investigations" send the wrong message, emboldening the criminals, while demonizing and neutering the police?
Yet, what is the proper manner of reacting to what many believe, are too many killings of black people, at the hand of police?
No matter how you slice it, "Houston", we've got a big problem in Black America.
P.S. To the police of Baltimore or anywhere:
Do you are so presumptuous to maintain that under no circumstance, are police to be held to accountability, rebuke or scorn, and that the people who you pledged to serve, are completely out of sorts, when conditions may lead them to be suspicious of the intent and actions of scores of your colleagues?

Bruce Pavitt was born 1959 in Chicago IL. At the age of nine, he sold Christmas cards door-to-door in the summer heat, earning enough money to buy his first record player, and soon after, his first record (“Revolution” by the Beatles). A lifelong passion for music brought him to the Evergreen state college in Olympia, WA, in 1979, where he spent time as a DJ at KAOS-FM. Soon after, he started his own zine named SUB POP, which reviewed hard-to-find independent rock recordings. In 1983 Bruce moved to Seattle, where he started the SUB POP indie music column for the Rocket magazine, hosted a SUB POP radio show on KCMU-FM, was a DJ at the infamous Metropolis all ages club, as well as the Vogue and Re-Bar.In 1984, he co-founded Fallout Records, the first indie rock record store in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. In 1986 he launched the SUB POP record label with the release of a compilation album: SUB POP 100, featuring NY’s Sonic Youth and Seattle’s U-Men. In 1988, along with business partner Jonathan Poneman, Bruce opened the doors to the SUB POP offices at First and Virginia in downtown Seattle. By the early 90′s SUB POP had released recordings by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Mark Lanegan, Beat Happening, TAD, The Walkabouts, Steven Jessie Bernstein and helped initiate a global interest in Seattle area music. In 2012, Bruce released Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989a photo journal documenting his travel experiences with Sub Pop bands in Europe. . IN 2014, a compilation of his early Sub Pop zines and columns entitled,Sub Pop USA: The Subterranean Pop Music Anthology, 1980-1988.
