Welcome to Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine - your essential guide to all things wild and wonderful in the world of cult entertainment!
This week, we're taking a break from our more traditional cult horror orientation to delve into the final frontier of independent, underground cinema!
Kicking off with a nod to its roots in the burlesque loop and the short lived but entertaining early '60s nudie cutie craze, we're talking the surprisingly mainstreamed era of "(adult) chic", when everyday couples and trendy hipster types would venture into the seedy, sticky floored grindhouses of Times Square and the like, taking wallet, jewelry and life in hand to catch the latest hardcore effort, to share their experiences with likeminded friends and maybe learn a new technique or two in the process...
Join us as we speak to the days when fallen (and occasionally rising) cult film auteurs and slumming theatrical types joined forces to express post-hippie idealism and attempt to create some measure of "art" amidst the lowest and most unsavory of companions and financiers...with the threat of arrest and wage impoundment hanging over their heads at all times.
Drop in for a spell, and join hosts "Doc" Savage and Louis Paul as we dig deep into the rich vein of cult cinema, music and television, right here on Weird Scenes inside the Goldmine!
Considering how quickly everything is changing--from what we were used to from traditional perspectives to the "new norm," acceptance of just about everything--it's no wonder there is so much chaos in the world.
Parents are more fearful of chlidren than children are of parents.
Those in government positions fear no one--including God.
Children have no respect for anyone--their parents, teachers or anyone else in authority.
And yet, since parents are not allowed to discipline their children, teachers are not allowed to discipline their students, the only ones who are penalized for the poor behavior--by court systems are the parents. Go figure!
With the start of a new school year on the horizon for some and already begun for others, everyone needs to stop and think where our society is headed if no one can discipline the children.
The church needs to do more regarding teaching on respecting authority, governments need to get out of the business of parenting, and parents need to be parents--not their children's friends. That's how a change will come.
When we do things the God intended them to be done--everything works out for the best.
I've written a nuimber of books pertaining to how we should live as Believers--all found on Amazon.com. Just type in my name, Mary M. Hall-Rayford in the search box and "viola" you'll see a great selection.
If you're listening and want to comment--please call us at 619-638-8499. We'll love having you aboard.
Comment at the end of this page after listening--we'd like to know what you think of our show.
Remember this--God loves you and we do, too. Have a blessed week in Him!

Profusely talented and highly gifted.Born and raised in Rochester, NY, John was surrounded by music that helped shape his particular style of playing. John credits his early influences to his father. John’s musical journey started when he was eight years old. John gives credit to other heavy influences aside from family members such as Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Dave Holland, Ron Carter, John Patitucci, Nathan East, Fred Hammond, and Joel Smith. They drove his growth, resulting in a deeper love and dedication to the art of being a bassist. When asked about his greatest influences, John’s response is always: “Too many to name and enough to keep me humble and always practicing.”
Whether John is playing electric, acoustic (upright) bass, or key bass, John can be found holding the groove on local stages in Charlotte, NC, his hometown, or performing on main stages across the country with national recording artists. In his career thus far, he has worked with gospel artist Lejuene Thompson, musical director for Grammy Award-winning singer and actress Stephanie Mills, contemporary jazz artists Brian Simpson, Matt Marshak, Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole, Walter Beasley, Nick Colionne, Marc Antoine, and Four80East. Additionally, John has earned Grammy certifications for his performances on EMI gospel projects “Oh Happy Day,” an All-Star Celebration (Best Traditional Gospel Album) and Heather Headley’s “Audience of One” (Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album.) They were both won at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Tribal Maps with Aaron Carapella - Do you remember the last time you used a map and not a GPS device? Were you ever curious about where Native American tribal Nations were originally located? Neshi’s guest is Aaron Carapella, cartographer with a mission. From time to time Aaron would see maps of the traditional territories of tribes, but thought they looked incomplete, and the names mostly inaccurate. He filed away the idea of one day creating a more authentic-looking map. Years went by as Aaron looked from time to time for a better map. One day he decided, "It’s time to make a REAL map of Native America, as WE see it." Join Neshi and Aaron Carapella as they journey to the original homes of Native American Nations.
