  • Getting Back in Touch With Our Humanity with Documentarist Stefan Verstappen

    in Self Help

Today's special guest, Stefan Verstappen is best known for his writings and talks on psychopaths and their influence on society. His video Defense Against the Psychopath, is based on his book, The Art of Urban Survival.

From his study of psychopathy, Stefan draws the ominous conclusion that every hierarchical structure will eventually be under the control of psychopaths. When that happens they will create a toxic society that will quickly spiral into collapse. He explains this in his article, Historical Cycles, Are we Doomed to Repeat the Past?

Stefan has written books, articles, given dozens of talks and radio interviews, and continues to create videos on how to survive the dangers of living in a sociopathic society: How to Survive War, How to Survive Corruption, Paradise Stolen

But Stefan's true passion lies in art, music, and nature. To offer a message of hope, Stefan had designed an art installation called Tri-Monic that has already been chosen to be exhibited at Toronto’s largest all night arts festival known as Nuit Blanche Oct 3rd. It has also been selected as the feature installation for the igNIGHT art festival in Ft. McMurray Alberta.

    August 30: Meeting Expectations

    in Sports

With the summer coming to an end, the sports world is heating up. Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti and George "the Howitzer" Gerbo go through all the recent asinine news like only they can.

Major League Baseball's playoff picture is still being put together. Will the Blue Jays hang on and claim the AL East? Division or not, it's looking like Toronto will reach the postseason for the first time since 1993, but exactly how good will they be come October? Can the Yankees continue winning minus legit pitching? Despite a wire to wire first place campaign, are the Royals possibly vulnerable to underachieve in comparison to 2014?

Do the Pirates need to avoid another Wild Card game appearance? Should the Nationals complete their collapse how much change could be on the horizon in DC?

Another college football season is here! Mike and George give their take on the preseason rankings. Who will reach expectations? Who will underachieve? Which teams could soar up the standings? What are the odds the Big 12 actually has one true champion to match the slogan (eye roll)? No matter what goes on, we are guaranteed entertaining games, upsets, and asinine playoff selection drama.

Robert Griffin III and the Redskins continue as the Kardashian's of the NFL.

The Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show, conquering sports radio, one day, at a time....

An Artist Speaks Season 4 Episode 11 with Guest Madeleine Turgeon

    in Art

Listen in as Host Michael Harris talks with selling artist Madeleine Turgeon.  Canadian born multidisciplinary artist, Madeleine Turgeon has worked in the visual arts since 1995. After initially studying agricultural sciences at McGill University, she went on to visual arts studies at the Ontario College of Art & Design University in Toronto. As nothing is lost and all is created... she abandoned agricultural sciences in 1988 to devote herself fully to an artistic career, while keeping the passion for nature that inspires her. Alongside her creative work, she worked in the graphics and communications world for several graphic art agencies in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec. Graphics enabled her to deepen her grasp of the art of visual communication by adding forceful imagery to the power of words, combining technical expertise with the rigour of digital art. Enriched by much travel and study abroad, Madeleine Turgeon developed a unique style and also gained the fluency and spontaneity that allow her to explore mixed media painting and mosaic with equal facility and sensitivity.

DST 8/29/15: Lions/Jaguars Preseason Wrap w/ Robb Gillies, Tigers/Blue Jays

    in Sports

The Lions nip the Jacksonville Jaguars by the final score of 22-17 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. Robb Gillies analyzes the pros and cons (including too many penalties) of it with me. The debate for the backup QB position just got heated up a little.

I recap the series opener between the Tigers and the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays from Rogers Centre. The Tigers lose again 5-3 and thus fall 7 games below the .500 mark. The evaluation for Tigers manager Brad Ausmus early on is not looking good thus far in the late stages of the 2015 MLB regular season.

  • Friday night baseball; the American League wildcard race is becoming interesting

    in Sports

The American League wildcard race is heating up heading into September.  Six teams are within 2.5 games of claiming the final wild card spot.  The Torono Blue Jays and New York Yankees will battle for the American League East title, with the runner up most likely being the number one wildcard.  The Houston Astros have increased their lead to five games, over the Texas Rangers.  Kansas City continues to cruise at 78-49, which is the best record in the American League.

The National League playoff picture is beginning to take form.  The Pittsburgh PIrates and Chicago Cubs have a strong hold over the San Francisco Giants.  The Giants are only 2.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the NL West, and that could be the only way they will make the postseason.  The New York Mets have increased their lead in the NL East to 6.5 games, while the St. Loius Cardinals just keep winning and have the best record in baseball.

With September baseball, on the horizon, is there a team that will put together a big winning streak and make a surprise run into the postseason?  Listen in and call the show with your thoughts.
