Tony Holiday is a rising figure in the blues harmonica world! Touring 8 months a year he plays the semi pro circuits. Tony has played with many of blues great. He is friends with Lazy Lester and Guitar Shorty, who is recording Tony's song Weep and Moan. With mentors like Adam Gussow, Brandon Santini, Rod Piazza and Ronnie Shellist, Tony has come a very long way in just 3 years on the harmonica. For this interview he will be on West Coast tour with one variation of his Velvetones.
Even though the musician has a tattoo of a harmonica on his forearm as well as the words “True Blue” on his fingers, he doesn’t classify himself as a strict Chicago-style bluesman. Holiday can be seen on local stages most weekends with multiple bands, including honky-tonk outfit Smoke in the Tavern and ’50s-country-influenced Antique Cadillac, and his main band, The Velvetones, to which he contributes smoky lead vocals, harmonica, guitar and original compositions.
At the prompting of Bad Brad Wheeler, Holiday founded the Utah Blues Society six months ago with the help of KRCL’s Brian Kelm, host of the Monday night, Red, White & Blues program. Brian was recently appointed as the society’s president.
In addition to keeping busy with the Utah Blues Society, Holiday is soon to release two new albums with the Velvetones, a live album called Live at Fats Grill, which released this month and a studio full-length titled Happy to Have the Blues, which will be out in June. Holiday says Happy to Have the Blues will have a funky and heavy-blues feel, and is “just all about harmonica.”
Tony’s talent will amaze, it is as if he was born to play the blues and definitely has mastered the art of the harmonica. Be sure to check Tony out at Facebook and share his talent with others, for this is surely someone whose talent will take him far.

On this episode of Talking in Circles, we break down the weekend that was at Richmond International Raceway. Carl Edwards moved Kyle Busch out of the way on the final lap to win his 27th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
Was that the correct move for Carl? Should Kyle invoke some revenge?
We'll give our Attaboys and surprises and talk about the points. Who is in danger of missing the Chase?
Also we'll discuss the news of the week: NASCAR has instituted a new lug nut rule starting this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. We'll give our thoughts on that and talk about how NASCAR can police this.
Plus Tony Stewart was fined $35k for comments about lug nuts, then NASCAR instutites the rule. Should NASCAR revoke the fine and how bad does the sport look. What made Stewart made those comments and why did the Driver's Council pay the fine?
Several media members have complained about Tony Stewart being eligable for the win at Talladega, even though he's gonna have a subsitute driver. We'll discuss our feelings on that.
Plus, it's going to be a wild weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. We'll preview the double-header weekend and take your phone calls at 917-889-8280.
Born and raised in Detroit Michigan, Tony “Strat” Thomas started out playing a six-string razor in high school. After Thomas’ mother saw his talent she bought him a Stratocaster Guitar. The rest is history. Early on while landing small gigs, Thomas joined the legendary reggae band Onyx and other rock ‘n roll bands around town. A true artist, Thomas’ psychedelic sound was one-of-a-kind. Thomas has been compared to his music mentors Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Hazel. In 1978, George Clinton gave Thomas a shot to play in the studio with the Sterling Silver Starship. As Thomas continued to work with Clinton as a studio musician, Clinton gave Thomas his big break. Thomas joined George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Eddie Hazel, Garry Shider, Mike Hampton, Bernie Worrel, Bobby Womack, David “Chong” Spradley and Margua Booker to record and perform with The Parliament Funkadelic’s for over 20 years.“The Agony of Defeet” was Tony’s first guitar solo. This week on a special NFL Draft edition of Thursday Night Tailgate our guests will be: former Patriots Pro Bowl RB Tony Collins, former Rams DT turned broadcaster Bob Fields, former Chiefs & Falcons WR JJ Birden, former Rams Pro Bowl Guard Kent Hill and former Rams Pro Bowl QB Jim Everett.
Tony Collins - We'll talk with Tony about his draft day memories plus what it was like showing up at training camp the first time. Did the players, especially the other runningbacks, welcome him or did they view him as the guy drafted to take their jobs?
Bob Fields - Bob was an undrafted free agent signed by the Rams. Was it disappointing to go undrafted? What were people telling him heading into the draft? We'll also hear some of his favorite memories from a 30 year broadcasting career.
JJ Birden - JJ was an 8th round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns who later cut him. Was he surprised to go so late in the draft? Did he have added incentive every time he played against the Browns to show them they made a mistake? JJ was also a track star in college at Oregon. We'll get his thoughts on the Olympics later this summer and his memories of playing a couple of seasons with Joe Montana in Kansas City.
Kent Hill - Kent was a 1st round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 1979. We'll talk about what draft day was like for him. What were people telling him leading up to the draft? What was it like going through that day and sitting there waiting for your name to be called? We'll also talk about what it was like playing in the Super Bowl his rookie year against the last of the Steelers 4 championship teams of the 70's.
Jim Everett - Now that the Rams are back in LA and drafting #1, we'll hear what Jim thinks about whichever QB they select plus the story that led to him being traded to the Rams after the Houston Oilers selected him in the first round.

Jesse interviews Katy Taylor - who performs original and medieval chant and song that weaves celtic ornamentation with haunting, mystical invocations and prayers.Katy started with school talent shows and singing in chorus, school musicals, and church choirs. During a study-abroad opportunity in Austria in her undergrad years, she acquired a taste for medieval music by singing with Vienna's St. Augustine Church Choir. While living in Vermont in the 90’s, Katy toured with the group Northern Harmony in the United States, Canada, England, and Europe, performing traditional music of all kinds and singing with Peter and Mary Alice Amidon and Tony Barrand. She also sang with the eclectic, traditional music group, the Bayley-Hazen Singers, and with Anima, a medieval women's ensemble. Anima first introduced Katy to the music of 12th c. German mystic Hildegard von Bingen. Katy has recorded 4 of her own CDs, including a Mass commissioned by the Foundation for Universal Sacred Music. Katy sings to feel connected to Truth, Source, the Divine, however you name that. She doesn’t sit down to compose, but often from the inspiration of a poem or a prayer, music rises up within her to become a song. For her, to sing is to channel her particular expression of the Divine into the world. Learn more about Katy at http://www.katytaylor.com/ and http://www.thewingedheart.net/
