CM Radio - Jan. 28, 2015 - Randy Bachman, The Unchained & Affinity

    in Music

This week on CM Radio we have one of the true legends of rock and roll, Randy Bachman. Bachman, of course, rose to international prominence as one of the leaders of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, writing countless hits across multiple decades, including "These Eyes," "American Woman," and "Takin’ Care of Business."  He is now forging ahead into 2015 with a brand new project billed simply as BACHMAN. Joined by a virtuoso rhythm section with Anna Ruddick on bass and Dale Anne Brendan on drums, the trio’s debut effort, entitled Heavy Blues, will be available worldwide on April 15, 2015 through Linus Entertainment/eOne Music Canada.

Before that, we will be speaking with two of the excellent bands that will be taking part in the second edition of Generation Next Live (www.GenerationNextLive.com). We have Ryan Abramowitz of The Unchained, an instrumental groove rock band from Toronto who is making a name for themselves for that stellar live show and for their latest project, Lost in the Music. As well, we have Ashley Curtis, lead singer of Affinity, another band gaining buzz in the Toronto live rock scene and a breakout act at last year’s Indie Week. Their excellent debut EP, Consequences Pt. 1, came out last year and Ashley says that have new material in the works that they will be showcasing at Generation Next Live on Feb. 5 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.

"SOME GOOD CRAIC " - with Tony Duggins of The Tossers

    in Music

this Wednesday 1/28/15 at 8pm EST. Some Good Craic is back with Craic Head Mike and Jonny Ra . And special guest Tony Duggins from the Chicago Irish /punk band THE TOSSERS .

The south side of Chicago has a tough working class reputation, it’s also known for one of the largest populations of Irish people this side of the Emerald Isle. So it’s not entirely incongruous that a hard luck kid from the south side of town would choose to play traditional Irish folk music in pubs around the neighborhood. At 18, Anthony (T.) Duggins, was doing just that – playing pub favorites and covers of greats like Christy Moore, and Ewan MacColl. Before long his brother and his best friends were playing the original songs he had written as well, and so became The Tossers. The name was taken from an old slang term used for worthless British coins in Sean O’Casey’s play The Plough and the Stars. The coins became useless after the southern Irish Free State won independence from Britain, and started to print it’s own currency. The term tosser has since come to mean wanker, or it’s American equivalent, jag off.

Black America: Putting band-aids on bullet wounds.

    in Lifestyle

A lot of things have occured to disrupt the positive flow of the Black community. Many of those situations were caused by external factors; but not all. Join Cris Colbert and I in a discussion about Black America: Where are we now? What next? What part is our fault?

We will hit on some of the obvious but also dig deeper to try and get to the root of the matter. There needs to be a shift in how we view, process, and handle things so that the most effective resolve can be reached. Tonight's conversation is for those who see a problem and want to provide tangible solutions. The next generation needs us to dialogue and seriously create a path they can follow. Please join us in this important exchange of thought.
