Every year, senior citizens in this country are being swindled out of billions of dollars. In a survey conducted by the Investor Protection Trust, the Investor Protection Institute and the American Bar Association, 34 percent of lawyers polled said they are dealing with or expect to have senior clients who have been exploited.
A few years ago, the Investor Protection Trust released a survey that found that more than7.3 million Americans older than 65 already had been victims of fraud. And a recent MetLife survey estimated that seniors older than 60 have lost nearly $3 billion a year to financial abuse. And surprisingly, much of this abuse is not from strangers.
There are lots of scams targeting senior citizens, and according to the experts, some of the more popular ones are: prizes/sweepstakes, investments, charity contributions, loans and mortgages, health, funeral and life insurance.
Most elderly victims of financial abuse don't report fraud because they are either too ashamed, don't realize they are being duped until it's too late to get their money back, or their adult children fail to recognize the problem in time to intervene.
On today’s episode of Your Money. Your Matters, we’ll discuss the issue of scams against senior citizens and what can be done to protect them.
Your Money. Your Matters is a weekly show broadcasting every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon Central Time. The program features radio personalities Linda Webb-Mañon and Rick Grady, Cornerstone Credit Union League; Courtney Moran, Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation, and Todd Mark, Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

Bigfoot witness-turned-researcher, Todd M. Neiss has been an active investigator for more than 20 years.Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, he grew up hearing of these legendary creatures, alternately known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch, but gave it little credibility beyond that of Native American lore or a good old-fashioned campfire tale designed to frighten young campers. All of that changed for Todd in the spring of 1993.
As a Sergeant in the Army's 1249th Combat Engineer Battalion, he came face to face with, not one but, three of the elusive beasts in the temperate rain forest of Oregon's Coast Range while conducting high-explosives training. His sighting was independently corroborated by three fellow soldiers who also witnessed the creatures.
We will also include an interview with an aggressive sasquatch a man had in Colorado. This encounter borders just short of an attack.
Host Cyrus Webb welcomes Todd Davidson of the group The Royal Guard to Conversations LIVE to discuss their beginnings, what it's been like to see the response to their music and to introduce the single I WANNA KNOW.
Mud Toe Sasquatch has been a researcher, a materials scientist, a product developer, a quality assurance manager, a schoolteacher, a house painter, a salesman, and amateur actor and director, and a videographer. No matter what avocation he tried, Mud Toe found himself plagued by a persistent sense of spiritual emptiness and an inescapable feeling that human society was fundamentally flawed. He has struggled with substance abuse and self-destructive behavior since he was a teenager.
Four years ago, Mud Toe embarked on a spiritual journey working the Twelve Steps of recovery. Today, he is a PhD student at a well known Major University in the Midwest. He has also accepted a call to become a Healer of Society in the Nemenhah Native American tradition, which he has joined through spiritual adoption. He writes and speaks about his experiences in addiction and recovery, and publishes his words so they might reach those who need them. He maintains a Facebook page of his writings, and now will be sharing his thoughts on a weekly radio program on Withinsights radio called "Mud Toe at Midnight."
Mud Toe is not your average, everyday shaman. For him, it's not all "Love and Light." He is not afraid to access and embrace the darker elements of his experience. His intention is to be fully honest with his readers and his audience. He paints vivid pictures, and they're not always pretty.
Join Mud Toe every Friday at Midnight for a different kind of spiritual program.
