    Highways and Byways of Life

    in Finance

Today we celebrate National Rocky Road Day. In the early 1900s it was a soft dessert made from chocolate, marshmallows and nuts. In the United States, the most popular way to eat Rocky Road is in ice cream.

Although there are many variations, traditionally, Rocky Road ice cream was composed of chocolate ice cream, nuts, and marshmallows. Today it is common to find it based on vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips, marshmallows and almonds.

Is your financial pathway a rocky road? Your Money Your Matters focuses on how to reconstruct that trail with a smoother-surface. We know that the housing market has been a bumpy boulevard for many, and we’ll talk about how to push some of those obstacles out of the way. We discuss everything from debt management to life experiences. We explore what tools are available to help consumers better manage their personal finances, and we answer your personal questions.

Your Money. Your Matters is a weekly show broadcasting every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon Central Time, featuring radio personalities Rick Grady, Cornerstone Credit Union League, Todd Mark, Navicore Solutions, and Jenny Stewart, Consumer Credit Counseling Services. Plus we have a wide cadre of guests that join us.

Each week, we discuss financial issues that are most importance to consumers. Tune in; share your thoughts; and gain helpful advice.

Tim Rhode; Dream it...Plan it...Live it!

    in Motivation

Host Todd Weaver welcomes Tim Rhode to the show. Tim is the master of transitioning your life. Tim shares his life’s journey and the story of his nationally recognized and incredible nonprofit 1Life Fully Lived. Tim’s future was not always bright. After his parents divorced and some turbulent teen years Tim barely graduated high school. At 25 he was a part time grocery clerk painting addresses on home owner’s curbs to get diaper money for his young kids. Then he found his “niche” selling Real Estate. By 40 Tim had retired from selling Real Estate after having averaged over 200 homes per year. After 15 years as an agent, he reincarnated himself into mainly a Real Estate investor, and ski bum. Today Tim and his family live a lifestyle most can only imagine. He recently became a founder and partner in a successful Mastermind adventure travel business called Gobundance. Tim has been interviewed on ABC, FOX, and numerous podcasts and featured in a number of books. More information on Tim’s projects can be found HERE and you can follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

    SATURDAY HIGH NOON

    in Politics

State news shorts, commentary and part 3 of my discussion with Kansas activist Frank Smith of Pine Bluff about the billionaire Koch brothers and emperor Brownback's legions.

Read Chris Reeves up-to-the-minute state budget report as the legislature "goes into hiding."

Thaddeus Russell is author of A Renegade History of the United States (Free Press, 2010). Russell's talk was recorded by Todd Boyle and broadcast on "Mind Over Matters" by Mike McCormick (www.talkingsticktv.org).

New World Notes is produced under the auspices (Latin for "gun") of WWUH-FM, a community service of that beacon of light in darkest Connecticut, the University of Hartford.

The leisure we enjoy today--weekends, vacations, etc--was not granted freely by employers. Rather, it was taken without permission by "renegade" workers of decades past. These included slaves, drunken craftsmen, unmotivated factory hands, etc. For instance, plantation slaves established the practice of "vacation"--much to the annoyance of their masters. (They'd agree to return in exchange for not being punished.)

Part 2 focuses on sex and women's rights. Many rights and freedoms enjoyed today by U.S. women (and their male friends) were won for them--not by feminists--but by 19th & early-20th century prostitutes & madams. These include the right to own property; to acquire wealth; to dance, smoke, and drink in public; to wear attractive clothing; to give or receive oral sex; to have interracial intimacy; and to use contraceptives.

A rollicking good story, well-told by Thaddeus Russell.
