    CM Radio - Apr 22, 2015 - Joel Plaskett & More

    in Music

Welcome! We're stoked to have Joel Plaskett back on the show, this time discussing his most recent release, Joel Plaskett & The Park Avenue Sobriety Test. It touches on his solo acoustic side, his guitar rock work with the Emergency, his happy-go-lucky rhyming talents, carefree memories of growing up in Nova Scotia, and a little bit of anger at the forces making life tougher these days. There are many moments that draw on previous classic Plaskett, from beloved albums such as Three and Ashtray Rock, right back to his Thrush Hermit days. And there are new sides to his sounds as well – Joel like you’ve never heard him.

Of course, we'll also have our Canadian Spotlight Song of the Week, which comes to us courtesy of Kaylan Mackinnon.

    in Religion

"Even the stork in the sky Knows her seasons; And the turtledove and the swift and the thrush Observe the time of their migration; But My people do not know The ordinance of the LORD. "How can you say, 'We are wise, And the law of the LORD is with us'? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes Has made it into a lie. "The wise men are put to shame, They are dismayed and caught; Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD, And what kind of wisdom do they have?…      Jer 8:7-9

"My people are fools; they do not know me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil; they know not how to do good."   Jer 4:22

A most important and gratifying discovery was made in the beginning of our century. Thanks to the knowledge of Sanscrit, due to English scholars at Calcutta, German philologists, especially M. Bopp, have laid down sure principles, by means of which it is shown that the ancient idioms of Brahmanic India, the different dialects of Persia, the Armenian, many dialects of the Caucasus, the Greek and Latin languages, with their derivatives, the Slavonic, German, and Celtic, form one vast family entirely distinct from the Shemitic group, under the name of Indo-Germanic, or Indo-European.

Voices of the Earth welcomes Wende Essrow

    in Spirituality

Back from Summer Break to welcome Wende Essrow, a dynamic writer, wildlife artist, teacher, and as she describes herself, "a wanderer"! Her recently published children's book, The Paintbrush Dreamer, is enjoying great and well-deserved success. Here she is in her own words:

"My true home is in the woods, where I feel at peace and in touch with the spirit of the earth. I study the unique lighting and palette of each new day. The subdued silver purples of winter dawn, the vibrant pinks of summer sunrise, the sound of the hermit thrush are what inspire me to paint and write. Each day brings a new set of possibilities, colors, sounds, feelings and ideas to express through art. My family and friends know I disappear at sunrise and wander and when I return I have stories to tell and paintings in my heart. I invite you to greet each morning as a gift, listen to the trees, and honor your dreams."

Please join Wende and me for what will be an unforgettable conversation on July 30th at 7 pm Eastern, 4 pm Pacific.
