Face to Face in a Virtual World: How to Take Your Career to a Whole Other Realm

    in Books

Have we forgotten the power of word-of-mouth, or did we never understand it in the first place? Three luminaries of the book world share their unique expertise on where to go to find people who are talking about books. Suspense novelist Jenny Milchman spent 14 months on the road on what Shelf Awareness calls "the world's longest book tour," and moderates this conversation about the role of the bookseller, how conferences can enable emerging writers to get their first break, and how to truly connect with readers.

KJ Howe has the honor of winning three Daphne du Maurier awards. She is also the Executive Director of ThrillerFest, International Thriller Writers' annual conference, which takes place at in NYC every July.

Wanda Jewell has served for 25 years as the executive director of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA), and also worked in publishing for 42 years, including a stint as a school librarian.

Clay Stafford is an author, screenwriter, filmmaker, and music composer, who has sold over 1.5 million copies of his children’s adaptations. He is also the founder of Killer Nashville and publisher/editor-in-chief of Killer Nashville Magazine.

We can Tweet or post a status update in no time. Connecting face-to-face takes longer. On September 30th at 8 pm Eastern, find out why it's worth every minute.

In 2001, he became a federal agent. His first posting was in Toronto, where he served as a drug investigator. In May 2014, he returned to his former unit to serve as a bodyguard for the American ambassador to Canada until his retirement in September 2014.
