Merton was a man who searched. If you are up for some deep searching this week, join us! Merton's book "No Man is an Island" is an honest look at the interior life of a contemporary contemplative. We look forward to being withyou this week!
Tonight at 8pm ET on Ernest Radio Network, it's Political Gravity.
Your host Jane Hoffman goes back to one of our favorite subjects on Ernest Radio Network, that of monk & charity worker Thomas Merton. He lived an extraordinary yet simplistic life, dedicating it to God's service. Tonight, Jane focuses her attention on his time at the Abbey of Gethsemani, in Kentucky. He arrived there in 1941, and stayed until his death in 1968. You'll hear more on this amazing human being tonight.
All this plus NPR news, music, & much more.
Thomas Merton said "One mortal sin is more powerful than an atom bomb." What he meant is that each individual chooses sin like hate, greed, lust and it manifest itself - it is a driving force for war and other human conflict. Jane will read excerpts tonight and Jon will respond. Other current events. too.
Imagine a book club built around your prayer life — with no reading required! Lori Strawn and her friend Alice Shelton discuss spiritual themes and questions from literature and poetry, then top it off with a prayer from the Prayables collection. Join us in our journey to find God between the pages of our favorite books. This week, Lori and Alice will discuss a quote from Thoughts on Solitude by Thomas Merton.
Today's show highlights musicians who perform in Second Life, Concert Window & those on soundcloud. First up, you'll hear Musician Hannah Thomas, On Monday, I caught Red Heaven's concert at Lokki's. I've been anticipating the release of the new CD, Moth. On Tuesday, Seattle-based musician Tukso Okey did his weekly gig at Black Dahlia which was mesmerizing. Tukso is AVI Choice 2015 #1 rock performer in SL.
Finally, on February 27, Mic Wells (aka MrMulti Writer) and Meetu Writer performed at Gallery Rouge. Zap Mama continues its kickstarter campaign and has already exceeded its goal which means the 25th anniversary album will be a reality.
Today, I visited Tableau, a Second Life region after learning about it on The Drax Files. I met the sim creator, Nylon Pinkney, briefly while exploring various spots there. It's a fun, visually stimulating place to visit. The trip reminded me of my first days in SL where everything was new and was so fascinated by everything I discovered. It's been a while since I have that feeling of newness in SL.
Of course, I'll share what's on the bestseller book list and what I'm reading this week. If you enjoy the show, follow me on twitter and BTR. Happy Listening!
Wednesday's edition of The Thomas Loop Radio Show on AM-1440, WJJL - features an interview with author over the phones, Jim Gourley - in support of his new book, The Race Within - Passion, Courage, and Sacrifice at The Ultraman Triathlon. The book can be accessed on www.triumphbooks.com. At the top of the broadcast - I'll be over the phones talking conference playoff hockey with Head Coach of Buffalo State College Men's Hockey Program, Nick Carriere.
Overview of The Race Within -
The Ultraman Triathlon, one of the most remarkable endurance races in the world, is a three-day, 320-mile race that circumnavigates the Big Island of Hawaii. With only 40 competitors allowed in each year, this invitation-only event hosts some of the most superlative athletes on the planet. The Race Within discusses the 30-year history of the sport and race director Jane Bockus, former Pan Am flight attendant who has never done a triathlon, yet has dedicated herself to keeping the event true to its founding spirit for decades. This book follows Jane, her assistants, and a small cast of athletes through an entire year—from the end of the 2012 Ultraman to the 2013 event—and shows how they faced new challenges to the growth and well-being of the event, and were forced to question if old traditions could survive in a world of constantly-evolving sports entertainment. Granted full access to the race and the athletes, author Jim Gourley presents a look at this unique event and examines what it means to truly love sports.

Why aren't we talking about the specific changes that need to be made? How can we continue to follow down a path that seems to have no objective but the path itself? Why do we continue to follow people proceeding toward and rallying for monumental change when they cannot or will not even enlighten us on what change they mean? Hope and Change? Heard that one before.
