My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction;
12 For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights (Proverbs 3:11-12)
This verse was quoted in Hebrews 12. It's not a little feel-good chapter about how to make the best of your troubles - or even about how God makes the best of your troubles....it's a story of God's love. It is a massive statement about the gracious sovereignty of God over the evil that befalls his people. The question for us is will we accept the mysteries of God's Providence and be trained by it .... OR will we kick against this chapter and demand in the time of suffering that God perform in a way that we many times have erroneously either been taught or come to understand on our own?
Let's take a look at [biblical] discipline as we come to understand the love of God together.
How often to we refer to prayer or hear someone refer to prayer and not really think about what that means to us? When someone asks you to pray for them, what does that really MEAN to you in practical terms? Where do you like to pray? What distracts your prayer? Why would we pray for the dead?
Lori and Alice answer all of these questions from their own prayer experiences this week!
Grab a cup of your favorite Joe or a nice white wine and join us! You won't want to miss this week!

What does a book about America's take-over of Hawaii have to do with spirituality? It all started with missionaries! As Christians, we are compelled to spread the Good News about Jesus and bring others into our faith. This endeavor does not always end well. What good do missionaries do? What harm are they capable of? How can one spread one's faith without hurting anyone? Join Lori and Alice as they ponder these questions and spend time reflecting on the second week of Advent.
