As part of our series exploting God's strategy in human history, we're looking at how Jesus grew up - how did he come to believe that he was the son of God, that in fact, he is God? Are you facing opposition to your work? Maybe even from friends and family, from those who you expected to be supportive of your vision? Tonight we look at Nehemiah and the return of a people to a place and how he encouraged and led to victory despite fierce opposition. It's a story of encourgament. As part of the show we'll be inviting you to join in the discussion which will centre around the issue of vision, follow-through and opposition. There's a new post on the Thinking Allow
Following last week's talk on 'mystery' we look practically at how God gets His will done in a world where He doesn't 'insist on His own way'. We use the story of Joseph and Esther to illustrate how human, demonic and divine choice interact.
With a story from our Thinking Allowed book to conclude, this is a practical guide to an Open Theology.
Continuing our look at God's plan to have a community of witness, we explore David's kingdom and how disunity ultimately leads to a divided kingdom. Later in the show we'll be asking questions about uniformity and unity and how our communities of witness can lose the blessing God longs to pour out on us. With conversation, interviews and teaching, join us as we 'think allowed' Don't forget, you can catch up on the 'Thinking Allowed' blog, visit our wikipedia sty
God's people have been taken out of their place into exile. Instead of being distinctive, they have become integrated. Instead of being a blessing they can no longer be blessed. How will they respond? How do we respond in similar circumstances, when the world seeks to conform us, when God seems distant? Join us for tonights's teaching and discussion If you want to take part, the easiest and cheapest way is through the Thinking Allowed page on the blogtalk rad
We are what we think; and the way we think determines how we experience life and where we go with it. Therefore, if we want to change our lives, we need to change our thinking first.
When was the last time you made an important decision in your life, solved a complex problem, created an innovation, thought about the purpose of your life or planned for something big? How long did you spend on that?
What kind of thinking are you better at? Are you a good decision maker? A problem-solver? A planner? A visionary? Are you a person who makes a lot of sense, or a person who says “I don’t know” a lot?
Well the purpose for this broadcast help you understand why we think, and what purpose it serves for in our lives. The bible teaches us to that we should take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Therefore this show is designed to help you examine the reasons behind the thinking process, so that you can better understand how thinking can be helpful in our lives.
Women it is sometimes said, should not teach or have authority in the church for the following reasons:
There is an eternal principle that was established in Eden - man was created first
Women are more vulnerable to being deceived - Eve believed the snake,
This order of things reflect God's character - they are well fitted punishments for disobedience.
Further, it is argued, there is no scriptural evidence to the contrary on these issues and Church practice and tradition have always followed this line.
The issue raises important questions about God's character and the way we read and interpret scripture – and this latter point rather depends on how we view the nature of scripture and how it is supposed to work.
We thought it was time for us to 'think allowed on this subject.
God is big! The Bible says that 'His ways are not our ways' and gives us glimpses of His majesty and power that are truly incomprehensible. We see how at the same time He is able to strategise for a whole universe and know the number of hairs on an individuals head, such knowledge is truly 'beyond us'.
Yet we have been created for relationship with this transcedent God; and not the master slave relationship where the servant has no need to know his master's thoughts or plans, but as friends and more so, collectively, as His bride.
And when we look at scriptural references to 'mystery' it is almost always in the context of a mystery now revealed. So, what are wew supposed to know, how much can wew understand, what are we called to grapple with and work through? Have we been deceived by the enemy into using 'mystery' as an excuse not to challenge some of our preconceptions about God?
Hebrews 12 invites the question "what are we coming to?"
Often we come to circumstances, people or situations seeing only the outward. We get caught up in structure, tradition, we get distracted or daunted by the size or complexity or the intransigence of the problem.
The writer points to a different reality, a deeper truth. What we are actually coming to is a festal gathering - not because the circumstances are necessarily joyful, but because the bringer and source of joy is at the heart of them, bringing victry and transformation and healing.
Tonight's show looks at ordinary people and how they put this into practice.
