The Author Chat Show with Lynda D. Brown

    in Books

Meet author Stephen W. Hiemstra. I'll be interviewing him about his book, A Christian Guide to Spirituality: Foundations for Disciples

    About the book:

A Christian Guide to Spirituality takes the form of 50 daily devotions. Each topic is treated with a scriptural reference, reflection, prayer, and questions for discussion. Occasionally, references are provided for further study. The first four chapters (Introduction, Apostle’s Creed, Lord’s Prayer, and Ten Commandments) cover 40 days making them suitable as a Lenten study. Ten additional days focus on the spiritual disciplines and a short conclusion. Fifty days of study allow an Easter study running through Pentecost.

    About the author:

Author Stephen W. Hiemstra (MDiv, PhD) is a slave of Christ, husband, father, tentmaker, economist, and writer. He lives with Maryam, his wife of thirty years, in Centreville, VA and they have three grown children.

Stephen has been an active writer spanning both his career as an economist and a pastor. As an economist of 27 years in 5 federal agencies, he published numerous government studies, magazine articles, and book reviews. He has maintained a personal website since the 1990s and he has been active in social media. A Christian Guide to Spirituality is his first published book.

Stephen is currently a second career tentmaker dividing his time equally between Hispanic ministry and blogging under a theme of “online pastor”. As a hospital chaplain intern, he worked in the emergency department, a psychiatric unit, and an Alzheimer’s unit. He is an elder in Centreville Presbyterian Church.

Meet author/Pastor  Jermaine Gadson. Pastor Gadson will be chatting with me about his book, Tactics, Trends & Traits of the Enemy: Equipping the Believer to Fight Back.

    About the book:

This book is a "practical guide" to overcoming struggles that people face in everyday life that may not be easily recognized as spiritual in nature. Many people wrestle with unnecessary heartache, pain, temptations, and depression without knowing the true source of their dilemma. Unlike other books on spiritual warfare, this book takes the spookiness out of the picture, and shows how people experience spiritual battles in subtle things that are presented to them in everyday life. The Devil is real.  His tactics are real. But, we need not fear nor be ignorant of his devices.

    About the author:

Jermaine Gadson is the Senior Pastor of Faith Ministries, Inc., a non-traditional church located in Birmingham, AL. Prior to starting Faith Ministries, he served as an associate minister, youth minister, and pastor for local churches and ministries in the greater Birmingham area.  While, growing up in the Baptist church, he gave his life to Christ at an early age, and is a third generation minister of the Gospel.

He holds a B.A. in Religion with a Concentration in Congregational Studies and a Minor in Classics from Samford University, and a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School of Samford University.  He is currently a Doctor of Ministry student at Beeson Divinity School.

He enjoys reading, writing, sports, outdoors, movies, and spending time with his family. He is happily married to his wife Kristy and they have one beautiful daughter, Khloe.

Author Gary Rodriguez will be my guest on Sunday, Dec. 14th. We'll be chatting about his new book, Escape Through the Wilderness.

    About the book:

Escape Through The Wilderness is a timely reminder that children's adventure stories remain ever popular and this is one that deserves to grab the spotlight. A full on attention grabber from the start, Rodriguez spins his debut in endearing prose, his plot exciting, inventive and wholly convincing in its implementation, with plenty of unpredicted twists and turns along the way. Undeniably, a story about friendship, his young protagonists are ably observed with well-crafted personas which allow room for growth as their peril evolves. It’s a splendid telling that will certainly engage the imaginations of his young readers. There’s suspense, plenty of tension and gratifyingly dark overtures which children will lap up, but it never feels rushed with every chapter leaving the reader hungry for more. On cursory reflection it is simply a cracking story, but the thematic undertones reflect the loss of innocence and the fundamental issue of survival which would be invaluable for parent-child discussion.

    About the author:

My name is Gary Rodriguez, and I live in California. I'm the president of LeaderMetrix Inc., a consulting company that specializes in senior-level executive coaching, organizational development, and conflict resolution.
Previously, I worked for eighteen years in the radio business as an executive where I spent several years as one of the original managers of Infinity Broadcasting.

My guest on Saturday Dec. 13th is author Mark Smith. I'll be chatting with him about the book he co-wrote with his wife, Brenda, One Last Hurrah: A Story of Making Peace and Making a Difference.

    About the book:

I write this book to share my life story with whoever wants to learn that, from the most meager beginnings wrecked with abuse and negativity, a human being can emerge as a whole person who has much to give to the world around him.
Follow me as I take you through my life from a troubled childhood, through the world of professional wrestling, to youth ministry and foster parent. It is here that I have found the most rewarding life: sharing

    About the author:

I was born the youngest of five to a mother and father that fought every day that I can remember.  My father had an explosive temper and it was nothing for him to violently beat us and throw tools at us while at our family-owned gas station.  I slept with a baseball bat every night.  All through the house, you could find fist wholes behind pictures on the wall and in doors.  When my parents divorced after 30 tortuous years, I was then subjected to a step-father who had a drug problem; taking over 20 Percodan’s a day.

The Author Chat Show with Lynda D. Brown

    in Books

Meet author Alan Noble. Alan will be chatting with me today about his book, Climbing for Roots: Christian Foundations for Young Believers.

    About the book:

Sin, that diabolical disease of the spirit, has infected the entire human race! What is it? Essentially it is missing the mark. Mankind has been missing the mark since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. After that, everything went south. God’s perfect creation was in need of repair.

But because of His great love He sent His Son, Jesus, to make things the way they were supposed to be. The same immeasurable power that created the universe gave all of mankind an ability to be in God’s fellowship because of what Jesus did for us.

Climbing for Roots will explain fully the sin that so completely corrupted creation, and the plan of God for our salvation. We learn that Jesus is not only our Savior, but is also the Lord of our lives. What does that mean? That obedience will never earn us God’s love but it will always produce blessing. We learn that our salvation is secure, but we must strive for obedience because we are created to do good works.

    About the author:

Alan R. Noble is a born-again Christian, schooled in the Word since childhood. Mr. Noble was educated at William Paterson University, a liberal arts institute in Northern New Jersey, and received a B.A. in education, with a certificate to teach elementary school. Later, he received an M.A. in Communication Arts, and a certificate in supervision. He worked as an educator for 31 years. Alan and his wife, Kathy, reside in Kansas City, MO.
