Nancy Boman, Chair of the Epilepsy Subcommittee of the Saint Bernard Club of America joins Julie Forbes today for a conversation about canine epilepsy. Nancy's Saint Bernard died from epilepsy recently and her experience has inspired her to work to educate in an effort to prevent the spread of this genetic trait.
Julie Forbes also went to the University of Washington campus last week with some therapy dogs to provide some stress-relief to college students studying for finals. Hear about her experience on today's show.

Ms. Swendon is currently working on a program for therapy dog ambassador for, Train a Dog-Save a Warrior (TADSAW) at tadsaw.org . These would be therapy dogs, PTSD Support Dogs that go out into the community and promote the Service Dog Program by actually demonstrating what a Service Dog can do for a warrior surviving with PTSD, TBI, & MST.
In 1987 she founded the first chapter in Texas of the Delta Society, now Pet Partners. She had the first certified therapy dog in South Texas. Since then she has been active in television for 20 years, written 52 cookbooks and now a series of books entitled “POCKETS OF PEACE”. Each book in this series is inspirational and motivational in content to be distributed free of charge to those struggling to heal, to wounded warriors, to warriors deployed and deploying as well as the fourth in the series, “K9's − Therapy for PTSD, TBI and MST. This book features photographs of warriors with their service dogs and shows the depth and intensity of the bond between the two.
In 2006 Ms. Swendson founded the Penny's from Heaven Foundation, Inc. with the primary focus being therapy dogs for those struggling to heal from a myriad of afflictions. Because of the location of San Antonio and the vast number of military and military hospitals the primary focus became working with our wounded warriors with PTSD and TBI. The program split into two separate foundations only recently one focusing on therapy dogs and the other solely providing service dogs to our wounded warriors in need of help.
Lacey and Savannah are trained therapy dogs who visit patients at hospice and hospitals. Meet their owner Becky Gang and hear about this wonderful work.

Gizmo's motto is "Cuz we're frens!" and that is precisely why he does what he does.
Juno was two months old and sick with pneumonia when Young adopted her and nursed her back to health with a lot of "TLC, sleepless nights and a steam shower running." The pair quickly bonded, and soon Juno was traveling with Young 24/7. And even while Juno herself was slowly getting over her serious pneumonia, the little dog would cuddle and clean the rescued kittens that Young was also caring for.
Thanks to Young's love and dedication, Juno is now a five-year-old, "six pound ball of energy with a big personality!" For one thing, according to Young, Juno does not know she is a dog but really thinks she is a little person. Juno is also a Paws For Friendship and Paws to Read dog. She's a little dog doing big things!

Many Black people will agree that spanking is an accepted form of punishment in our community but most of us are in denial of the long lasting effects that severe beatings by parents can have. Child abuse in the Black community is real and it's time that we deal with that reality and get a better understanding of how it can effect our emotional development.
This is where Tanisha A. Cunningham? who is the author of the book A Rose Can't Grow In A Garden Of Weeds comes in.
On Wednesday we will review her very revealing autobiography that is sure to engage and enlighten all who follow her life story. Some of the highlights of this show will deal with:
Physical and emotional child abuse in the Black community.
Foster Care. Corruption issues, abuse, and advocacy.
Group Home violence and at risk youth labeling.
Perseverance from turmoil against all odds.
Tanisha's book is an astounding personal account of the many struggles that a young person may have to overcome just to be able to be functional in the world. There is a good chance that there is a little bit of our story in every chapter of her work. Her story is extremely candid, easy to understand and has a very personal feel to it that almost forces the reader to feel where she is coming from and want to cheer her on. It's a great read and this Wednesday we will break it on down.
Please pick up the book that you won't be able to put down: A Rose Can't Grow In A Garden Of Weeds by Tanisha A Cunningham on www.amazon.com and visit her website at www.tanishacunningham.com. Your life will be changed for the better and you will not be disappointed.
Some people are really dear to your heart but they constantly get on your nerves with their drama or whining or neediness or craziness or begging or shiftiness or whatever. You miss them when they are gone but as soon as they resurface you're ready for them to go away again.
