I hear so often that the angry atheist isn't helping the movement. Being angry doesn't help our position or cause. It doesn't push the conversation forward. It doesn't help move people away from faith or belief. It only serves to fortify the religious in their rut of superstitious ideas.
Or does it? When I was a believer, I got angry at all the caustic atheists, and wanted to prove them wrong. Doing so moved me to atheism. I realized that the jerk may be a jerk, but he was also right.
Let's talk about the different ways people talk about atheism and within the atheism movement. Are the mean, angry atheists helping?
Plus your calls. Let the awesomeness wash over you.
"You only want to be an atheist so you can go on sinnng!" Ever heard that before? There is so much wrong with this question, I want to do an entire show on it.
Do I want to be an atheist? Is sin the reason? What sin? Why would anyone think this?
I'll give my perspective.
Plus, your calls. The awesomeness is in your hands.
This week on Christians Unite Radio, we cover a story out of Canada where an Atheist minister is trying to stay ordained in the United Church of Canada. Doesen't this clash with the fundamental teachings of Atheism? We will take a look.

Put in the context of Divine Command Theory, the Euthyphro Dilemma results in two unpalatable conclusions:
1) God is not the greatest, as he must call upon a standard of good greater than himself. 2) God's commands are arbitrary, grounded on his whims, and thus could be commands that we ourselves find morally abhorrent.
The first conclusion results in the view that God cannot change what is right and wrong. Killing and stealing are inherently bad, so God, being inherently good, cannot command them. Yet if right and wrong are inherent to the action, regardless of God's decree, then God has nothing to do with the process. God doesn't set moral standards; he follows them, and is therefore only indirectly related to moral commands.
The second conclusion shows that God is free to decide what is good, and it is good by virtue of his decree. If this is the case, then God has no higher standard to answer to, and therefore his will may be seen as genuinely arbitrary. Although God once decreed that murder and theft are morally wrong, he might have declared the opposite just as easily, so then murder and theft would be right.
So many people think that atheists are all scientists or at least have an advanced understanding of science, but that is not true. However, just because someone does not have an affinity for science, does not mean they cannot accept the science that is out there. Just because someone cannot work out a complicated scientific method, does not mean they cannot look at life rationally.
