Record Talk Radio: Talking Port Authority Bus Terminal Blues

    in News

Join us on Record Talk Radio at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8 when our topic will be the much reviled and often parodied Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City.

Our guests will be Record reporters Christopher Maag, who covers transportation for the paper and John Cichowski, whose "Road Warrior" column covers all things commuting.

Maag will talk about his story "Bus Terminal Blues" on the run-down conditions at the mid-town terminal and the debate over how to renovate or replace the facility

Cichowski will talk about his whimsical column on the statue outside the terminal that memorializes Ralph Kramden, the fictional bus driver from the classic television comedy "The Honeymooners."

If you have a question or a comment for either one of them, feel free to send it along to me at johnensslin@gmail.com.

Ralph Kramden And The Ever Green Apartment

    in Current Events

Tonight we take a look at the relationship between America's standard of living and two of its linchpins: affordable energy and credit, using the lovable busdriver from the 1950's as our muse.  It is no accident that the surge of modern liberalism under Barack Obama, with its utopian impulses, especially the so-called "Green economy", has produced such a dismal recored of economic performance.

Adventure Travel - Made Easy. 5 Common Myths

    in Travel

My special guest Pat Rochon is an avid travelor.
Pat, who has waved his passport through the borders of 125 countries, is seeing a lot more adventure travellers in all shapes and sizes these days. "Solo travellers, honeymooners, thirty-something couples, families with kids, and quite often, three generations of one family travelling together - and they're all looking for some kind of adventure."
But, as Pat explains, many people come to adventure travel after long bouts of  'yes, let's do it' and 'no, somehow I don't think it's for us.'"
The reason? There are some fairly common myths and misconceptions about adventure traveller. They go some like this:
    1. I'm not fit enough.
    2. It's too risky.
    3. It's too expensive
    4. I've never done it before. I'll hold everybody back.
    5. I'll get bored and be left out if I want to stay back and not join the activity on certain days.
    And the list goes on.
Increasingly, more and more companies, just like Pat Rochon's, are addressing these misconceptions and tweaking their marketing message. "I tell people that I’ve got this company that specializes in worldwide small group holidays. Are they interested?'" says PAt, "Without exception they will say: ‘Sure I can do that.’ Then I tell them, 'Well, that's adventure travel.'"

Leading Life Large™ - Redefine Success

    in Women

Leading Life Large™ - Happy Valentine's Day! And no, today's show will not be about love...though it could apply. I like to talk about success, especially personal success, and yet it was one of my least favorite topics some time ago (and maybe it is for you, too). It seemed always to elude me just like it did Ralph on 'The Honeymooners'. I can hear him say "One of these days, baby!" Like Ralph, I had good intentions but I was missing one important ingredient that no one had ever taught me. I'll talk about it with you this morning.
