Disrespect during the Star Spangled Banner

    in Current Events

This was a requested show topic from my cousin who saw this at her son's graduation from bootcamp. She was not happy and I could only imagine what she saw. I can remember a time when hats were off, there was NO talking or moving during the Star Spangled Banner but now hats are on because God forbid you have to take off your snap back, people talk on cellphones, smoke, chew gum and do anything else they want. This is our National Anthem! People even disrespect the flag. Most of us grew up singing the Star Spangled Banner so we know what to do and we are to train up the younger generation but when we as the adults don't set the example then there is a problem. Military personnel please be an example and not a bad one. You were trained better than that!

    Celebrating Two Great Events!

    in Finance

Two special days today. It is National Anthem Day and National Pancake Day.

Written by Francis Scott Key, the Star Spangled Banner officially became the national anthem of the United States of America on March 3rd, 1931 by a congressional resolution signed by President Herbert Hoover.

After watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry from a prison ship, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem titled, “Defence of Fort M’Henry” on September 14, 1814. Thus, 38 years after declaring independence the United States was still at war with England.

In recent history, IHOP restaurants began National Pancake Day in 2006.  Since that day, they have raised $16 million for charities.  Today, people from around the country will once again celebrate National Pancake Day at IHOP restaurants and enjoy free short stack of pancakes.  Guests are asked to consider leaving a donation for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Sometimes freedom is a long fight. And sometimes you can enjoy your labor and give back at the same time.

Doug Briney embodies all things country: His personality is warm and inviting, some would say down-to-earth, recalling the disposition of many a Southern Gentleman from yesteryear. Now, Doug is ready to release the 3rd single from his Top 10 Roots Music Report album, Super Country Cowboy (TMG.) “Pretty Big Deal” is a catchy, tongue-in-cheek slow burner that pays homage to the joys of fatherhood…a subject that Doug knows well!  Already charting on the New Music Weekly country charts, “Pretty Big Deal” is poised to be Doug’s biggest hit to date.
