The Singularity Is Near -- Sooner or Later

    in Technology

Hosts Phil Bowermaster and Stephen Gordon discuss the timing of the Technological Singularity:

...a hypothetical moment in time when artificial intelligence will have progressed to the point of a greater-than-human intelligence, radically changing civilization, and perhaps human nature.Since the capabilities of such an intelligence may be difficult for a human to comprehend, the technological singularity is often seen as an occurrence (akin to a gravitational singularity) beyond which the future course of human history is unpredictable or even unfathomable.

If it is going to happen, one of the critical questions is when. Ramez Naam has recently suggested that it probably won't be any time soon. But William Hertling says don't be too sure -- it could happen a lot faster than we think.

Who's right? Is the Singularity near?

    Tune in an explore.

Transcendence: an Encyclopedia of Transhumanism and the Singularity

    in Technology

Authors R. U. Sirius and Jay Cornell discuss their new book, Transcendence: the Disinformation Encyclopedia of Transhumanism and the Singularity.

In nearly ninety A-Z entries, Transcendence provides a multilayered look at the accelerating advances in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, genomics, information technology, nanotechnology, neuroscience, space exploration, synthetic biology, robotics, and virtual worlds that are making transhumanism a reality. Entries range from Cloning and Cyborg Feminism to Designer Babies and Memory-Editing Drugs. In addition, the book notes historical predecessors and personalities, both in mythology and history--ranging from Timothy Leary to Michael Jackson to Ray Kurzweil. The Declaration of Singularity 2014

    in Technology

What's the difference between the original Delcaration of Independence and the Speculist's Declaration of Singularity?

Obviously one has already happened, and one has yet to happen. But what else? A few minor word changes aside, the big difference has to do with when things happen versus when they are declared to have happened.

What can we make about recent headlines concerning the Turing Test, self-Driving cars, and other developments?  Do they change the Declaration at all?

Or maybe is it time for a new declaration altogther?

    Tune in and explore!

The Coming Singularity Of Man And Machine

    in Technology

Knowledge shall be increased. We live in a day and age where the "amazing" has become commonplace, we have gotten so used to advanced technology to run our everyday lives. But did you know that just around the corner is waiting some advances and inventions that wll blow your mind? Tune in as we look at how Daniel's prophecy of "increased knowledge" is coming true right here and right now.

RELATED STORY: The Mark of the Beast and the Implantable RFID Chip

With your radio host and bible teacher, Geoffrey Grider of Now The End Begins.

"But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." Daniel 12:4

Beyond the Singularity With Science Fiction's Charles Stross

    in Books

Charles Stross made his name with the 2005 novel Accelerando, which explores several generations of a single family as they travel through the Singularity -- the time when artificial intelligence and other technologies create beings with godlike intelligence and powers. Stross returns to the theme of machine intelligence with his latest novel Neptune's Brood, a space opera set thousands of years in the future. In Neptune's Brood, the robot successors to the human race attempt to follow a financial trail that might lead to history's greatest scientific breakthrough, or biggest scam. Neptune's Brood takes a science-fiction look at themes we explore every day at Internet Evolution: Machine intelligence, business, and the networked, information economy. Also: Space pirates!

Vanguard of Renaissance - Factions of Freedom Ep. 112

    in Homeschooling

In 1991 we started had ImplantableMedicalDevices; PaceMakers and defibrillators. Creations that supplement the heart by artificial means. Soon after that, we developed forms of prosthetics that gave way to artificial limbs. Bionics became the next step in this invasive technological growth. Allowing various versions of body parts to be made that would, yet again, supplement the human body. Mind-to-body microchips that create a response from neurons to receivers. Recently, an operation was carried where they transplanted not only the head of a monkey, but also the head of a man onto a new body. These are things we're capable today. Who's to say we're not capable of creating a synthetic body, compatible with an exterior natural form? These are marvelous technologies nonetheless, but they enhance the 'Human Condition' and right now our whole planet is in a turmoil. What happens when requirements of Life-Extension technologies are the norm for service? An immortal Frankenstein like arm, patched together by various technologies to sustain what we call 'life'.For now, our natural bodies can handle the Pre-Human world; This is Earth 1, the original design. What's happening now, with the pollution of our air, the toxification of our food and the modification of our genetics, is that we are being aggressively converted. As radical as the notion sounds, explain animals growing extra appendages after eating GMO food after a two year process, or children being irradiated and malformed after a town is shot up with Uranium? These are lasting effects on our planet that won't end in our life time. These are artificial evolutions that require synthetic solutions, and because of this we are evolving. And if we're not being resuscitated by AutomaticInternalDefibrillators. We are being soft killed by these man-made poisons, and their solutions are more chemicals with the involvement of technology.

    Convergence with John Carosella

    in Spirituality

John Carosella hosts Convergence, a journey into shamanism, science, and mysticism, exploring our beautiful world. Making the mystical accessible to the scientific-minded, and bringing the language of science to the Mystery, John brings provocative, new perspectives to living, learning, healing, and discovery.

This month, John speaks with Lincoln Cannon, co-founder of the Mormon Transhumanist Association and philosopher of theological evolution and post-secular religion, about the nature of consciousness, thriving, and the role technology might play in the very near future. Their conversation includes an exploration of transhumanism - the use of technology to extend what it means to be human, and on the perspectives within Mormonism that make transhumanism and Mormonism such interesting bedfellows.

John is also joined by his Firefly Willows L*I*V*E! co-hosts HiC Luttmers and Mildred Lynn McDonald for a roundtable discussion on what it takes to stay young. As usual, HiC and Mildred Lynn come up with some surprising but sensible advice.
