NFL has a negative impact on High School Football; MLB playoff update / recap

    in Sports

Ligonier Valley High School entered tonights high school football action 5-0 and had a tought opponent in HuntingdonHigh School. This was a competitive game with Huntingdon jumping out to a 14-6, and then a 21-6 halftime lead. Ligonier Valley made some great halftime adjustments to stop the powerful running game, and created some turnovers. However, during the course of this game I saw players throwing their arms up in the air wanting a pass interference call, grabbing the neck of their jersey wanting a holding call, and arguing and pleading with the referees play after play. Are we to the point that if the offense doesnt get positive yards they want a penalty? Also, if the defense doesn't stop the offense they want a penalty? Call me old school and maybe I just want to watch a competitive football game without the side show.  What are your thoughts?

The wild card games are over and the MLB divisional playoffs are underway with all teams in action today.  We will look at each series and talk about the momentum that some teams have, and if there are any teams that should be concerned.  There is a lot of baseball to be played, but when teams are hot in the postseason they can make that magical run. Listen in and call the show.

"WE see ideology as a systematic way of thinking about phenomenon, bit as sine set if abstract conclusions.  Our approach is one that uses dialectical materialism, which holds that contradictions are the ruling principle of the universe. Everywhere, in all of life the———— social forces, the natural forces, and the biological and the physical forces, the natural forces———we contradictions. What we mean is that in every phenomenon there is a contradiction between opposing forces which struggle to gain domination over the opposites. Because these opposites are both unified and constantly in struggle with one another, they give motion to the matter composing the phenomenon. So we say that matter is constantly in motion, or constantly in a state of transformation.  The transformation takes place in a dialectical manner, with the thesis struggling against the antithesis. These are contradictions. The struggle is resolved in a synthesis that contains elements of the old contradictions, but at a higher level.  Then a new set of contradictions will arise."

Yeah so we are doing a social studies unit on our ancestors. We’ve done some version of this for as long as I can remember…more than 15 years? The students are asked to talk to family, interview relatives, make a family tree, and identify one of their countries of origin. (You know…not the U.S.A. unless they are indeed a Native People of this country)

Ok. So, our units are language rich and it’s my job to come up with some of the daily vocabulary. There I was picking words: ancestor, traditions, relationship, immigrant…hmm…immigrant…

So, all of a sudden I am thinking…for the FIRST TIME …because white privilege…SLAVERY.

I have had Black students. None this year, but usually I have a child with ancestry that very very likely includes slavery. And it’s never occurred to me to deal with this. Sigh. Well, there it is. And here we are.

I was debating whether to enter this word into the Google doc all the other teachers at my grade level will access. I was thinking they won’t like it. They will object. They’ll question my judgement. They’ll think it’s inappropriate. I was afraid. This is uncomfortable.

Now, I am of the mind that when something bothers me, it’s time to act. It means I know the right thing to do and I’m afraid.

Right then, one said colleague walks in and we talk. We are much more like-minded. I tell him about it. He affirms its validity. This helps. I decide. I do it. SLAVERY is one of our words. It is right between immigration, emigrate, migration, and refugee. Even if the other teachers might not utilize it, I will. It needs to be discussed outside the context of Black History. This is family history. This is the history of my students. Even if they aren’t Black…

    The Real Truth

    in Christianity

Challenges don't mean you are losing but that you are waiting on God the Father through Jesus Christ to open up the Red Sea so you can walk over into His best on dry ground. Waiting for God best which is right for you. Many people live in this that it beats nothing rather than the fields of blessings upon blessings. Don't worry about challenges for they are holding you back from making a terrible decision that will cost you from entering the land of glorious beauty. I love you!
