During the Neighborhood Awards I had the pleasure of speaking with R&B singer Neyo. During the interview we talked about the tattoos that you can't see, his relationship with the mother of his children, his musical background and whether or not his two children are showing any signs of his singing ablities. Press play now to learn more about Neyo and his music.

Joining Melissa and myself, is of course Sam Way, and latter on Deborah Berry. God, don't let me burn this night up! It get's better. Jeff Gabbard stops by LIVE! from the Downtown Milton Studio. Jeff is the Fire Chief of the Cambridge City Fire Department by 24/7, and Indiana Deputy Fire Marshall by 7 days a week. Oh, EMS, Nurse, Master Firefighter, even a drag car racer. Let's talk about Fire Safety and prevention. Jeff and both his 'staffs' did just that this past week, going into the schools and addressing citizens about 'blazing hell' - which turns into trauma for someone. We learned not to play with matches, and graduated to smoke alarms and personal fire extengushers. But, MR and MRS TBI (or Miss), do you know when to use, HOW to use, or properly checked the fighting apperatice?
Need help? Take notes. This is a fantastic opportunity to discus fire, EMT and first-respoce questions. Have any? Ever been on the other side, where you was the FIRST needing response, but was, uh, knocked out or something?
More first responce of the lawful side is expected. Milton Police Chief Josh Russell may stop by, time permitting (busy schedule that EVER changes, he has) and discuss house and home safety, neighborhood watch programs and just what to do if that weird looking goblin' hangs around your house too long during Halloween. Josh is also an emergency responder, thank you God - he's done it at my house a FEW times. My version of C.O.P.S. - Concerned, Offering Police Service. Talk to an officer, share and trade TBI concerns of living alone, confussion and efforts by both us, and them. Register.
Yep, Sting said I could, so I'm playing The Police during breaks tonight....
Rant time, and a break from politics... Mike goes to the wonder of denial.
A murder, child molestation or other horror happens. Is your immediate response that it never happens or simply can't happen on our block, in your neighborhood or in our town? That's human, but pretty silly.
Even withi mass murders, nieghbors often initially say it isn't true, because, "I kinow him. He's a nice guy."
There are many dynamics working here. We'll touch on chauvsnism and the various flavors of denial, including it didn't happen, to it couldn't happen, to it wasn't as bad as all that, to some outsiders did it.

On Friday evening, March 21, 2014, Alejandro “Alex” Nieto, 28 years old, was shot at over fourteen times and killed by the San Francisco Police Department, on Bernal Hill Park, without justification. We speak to Adriana Camarena, attorney, writer, and resident of the Mission District of San Francisco since 2008, about the altar Alex's mother and others created to honor him as a part of the 15th Annual Dia de los Muertos at Somarts in San Francisco. It is up through Nov. 8.
There is a special event in Bernal Heights today, Oct. 21, on the seven month anniversary of Alex's killing: http://justice4alexnieto.org/alex-story/ Listen in for the details. Since arriving in the Mission, Adriana began collecting tales of borders, line-crossings, and overlapping identities told by residents to provide a layered picture of this traditionally working class immigrant neighborhood in California. Two of her published Mission essays are “The Geography of the Unseen” in Rebecca Solnit, INFINITE CITY: A San Francisco Atlas, UC Press, (2010); and “Street Food” in “n+1” literary magazine, (Summer, 2012).

Franny Armstrong is a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Her husband supports her imagination and has the patience of a saint. She’s been writing since she was a child, creating plays to act out in front of the neighborhood children. She charged them five cents admission to join her in the family garage for the play.
Since 2002, after a serious breakdown, Franny had to express herself on the computer since she couldn’t speak, everything coming out gibberish at that time. She’s slowly healed to the point that she can function fairly well. Writing was the best medicine for her and still is.
Franny, an author of paranormal romance stories, also loves to write about rainforests and Caribbean islands rather than about cities. Her characters are well rounded and share her wacky sense of humor.

Brought to you live from University of Redlands and the debate between Democrat Pete Aguilar and Republican Paul Chabot for the 31st California Congressional District. Aguilar has been endorsed by the Marijuana Policy Project - Chabot earns his living as a professional drug warrior.
This is an epic battle between a progressive Democrat and a right wing Republican in a seat that is being hotly contested by both parties. The debate starts at 7 p.m. but we will interview people coming to the debate.
In addition to live interviews with debate attendees, guests for the show include Jason Elassner from Yucca Valley and the initiative that is now being circulated in this small desert town to rescind the current ban on medical marijuana dispensaries and put in place an ordinance that will license and regulate a limited number. With an election for city council going on right now, the initiative has become a focal point in the election. It's not exactly tearing the town apart, but there are strong opinions on both sides.
OC NORML is sponsoring a 420 Bingo Party for the the Prisoner Project which is dedicated to helping people serving life sentences in prison for marijuana. Cheri Sicard will speak about Paul Free who is serving a LIFE SENTENCE for a nonviolent marijuana offense he did not commit. With arguably the nation's top wrongful conviction attorney interested in his case, he needs $3,000 to get started.
That's what the 420 Bingo Party is going to do - raise that money for Paul. Learn what a 420 Bingo Party is all about and if you are in the neighborhood on Sat. Oct. 25, you can join on in.

The VOC Nation Radio Network traces its roots back to 2009 in suburban Philadelphia. Bruce Wirt took over the afternoon shift on the Voice America Health and Wellness Network and proclaimed himself, “your new ‘Voice of Choice’ in afternoon radio.” The V-O-C in VOC Nation was born.
Over the next 3 years, Wirt took his act to Philadelphia radio, eventually settling in at independently owned WNJC 1360AM. The VOC Nation Radio Network spun away from WNJC in October 2012 and took to the “cloud”, using their solid fan base to instantly become one of the most listened to mediums on the Internet. In 2014, VOC Nation merged with Brady Hicks' IN THE ROOM Internet Radio Network, giving the combined medium over 50,000 monthly listeners.
VOC Nation Radio streams live programming 7 days a week, and has forged partnerships with BlogTalkRadio, Stitcher Internet Radio, Podomatic, iTunes, and GoDaddy to bring daily live entertainment and downloadable podcasts to listeners worldwide.
