Week 5 Mountain West football recap

    in Sports

For the Week 5 recap podcast Jeremy is joined by Matthew K. to go over the latest action of Mountain West football. Well, we don't know much more than we did the week prior. Boise State gets outplayed by Air Force, but is it a one-game slip up or have the Broncos fallen of of its perch from being the feared team they have been accustomed to over the past decade.

Besides going through all of the games we attempt to make a decision on who is the best team in the league this year. This year the Mountain West has no clear frontrunners on a collision course to meet in the Mountain West title game, but now there are multiple teams in each division that can make the case to be the best team.

    Mountain West quarterback race

    in Sports

The quarterback situation for the Mountain West schools is up in the air for nearly every school. So far during spring practices and only a few of the jobs have been settled with the most being decided in fall camp. Jeremy and Chris are back to discuss these quarterback battles and other spring musings.

Is it quite possible that New Mexico has the best quarterback situation, at least with returning talent and experience. Utah State has an argument for that as well but that only matters if Chuckie Keeton can stay healthy and that is not likely going off of his history. Maybe it is Air Force who has Nate Romine under center and while he didn't start last year, he did see time in nine games in 2013.

As of now Boise State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV (but they are close), Hawaii, Wyoming, Colorado State and Fresno State have not officially announced who their starting quarterback will be.

Quarterback play will be a key issue in deciding the Mountain West next year, which is an obvious statement but this year it is important due to the amount of turnover.

Week 3 Mountain West football recap

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris go through the nine games of the third week of Mountain West football and discuss the highs and lows of the league so far. We both fell that Boise State is the best team in the league and that Nevada really has a chance to compete in the West.

We go deep into Fresno State to try to figure out what is going wrong with that team. Is it coaching, lack of talent, scheme or just maybe we are holding onto some shred of that Fresno State is still a good team and blame the difficult schedule.

We do get to Chuckie Keeton leaving the first half of the Wake Forest game by re-injuring the same knee that he tore his ACL last year. As of this time there is no update on the status of Keeton's knee.

Mountain West football Week 1 preview

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris are back for the hour-plus shows as we are previewing the first week of the Mountain West football season. There are 12 games and the guys do gloss over a little bit of the FCS vs. Mountain West teams, but the big games like Ole Miss vs. Boise State, Tennessee vs. Utah State, UNLV vs. Arizona and other similar games get plenty of attention.

There is one super crazy upset pick by both of us, and while it won't come true it is quite possible that at the very worst this crazy pick should at least cover the monstrous spread.

Also, this year Chris and Jeremy will keep track of our picks and let everyone know how we do picking games this year, so sit back with your headphones and listen to this 80 minute show.

Mountain West football staff prediction show

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris are getting the entire Mountain West Connection staff on this podcast -- not at one time, that would be madness -- to give predictions on the Mountain West season. The staff will be asked these four questions:

Mountain West title game participants and winner:

    Player of the year:

    Coach of the year:

    Bold prediction:

Pretty basic and with a staff of around 20 or so writers we don't want this show to drag on forever.

Week 1 Mountain West football recap

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris are back to recap the first week of the Mountain West football season, and of course we know nothing. Not because we are dumb -- well some may think so -- but all of the offseason studying we did seemed to be for naught. The league went 1-5 in FBS games with Colorado State being the lone victor of that group as they beat rival Colorado.

The other half of the games were against FCS foes, and thus it is hard to take a ton out of that and make sense of it.

We discuss how Colorado State and Hawaii are looking to be actual contenders in each respective divison, and that Boise State is not going to go away quietly. Also, Fresno State really could be in a lot of hurt this year after its loss ot USC, and it doesn't help they face Utah and Nebraska in the next few weeks.

Oh, and there was this game we don't really want to mention that happened on Sunday night.

Sit back and enjoy the Week 1 Mountain West football recap.

2014 Mountain West football early preview

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris are starting to preview and breakdown the Mountain West football season. We are starting with a big breakdown of how we think the league will finish with bowl projections, key players and early Mountain West title game participants.

This is early to do this but going forward we will be breaking down each team once a week up until the season begins, and then we will likely revisit these projections come late August.

    Mountain West signing day recap

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris get together to recap the wild signing day that was as it pertains to the Mountain West. We will discuss who earned the best class, go over winners and losers, the surprise signings, team needs and of course our typical show of going off topic and randomness.

We don't claim to be experts in breaking down high school film or project who will be the next biggest star in the Mountain West, but we do know how to make sense of all of the information that was handed down on Wednesday.

Before the show airs make sure to get caught up with all of our signing day coverage which he have been compiling all year round.

Previewing the Mountain West in the NCAA tournament

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris are back to preview the Mountain West teams in the tournament with our latest show. We will for sure talk about Wyoming taking on a possible under seeded Northern Iowa team and a St. John's team which San Diego State will face.

We also will discuss Boise State's game that may or may not be in progress at the time of this show for their game against Dayton in the First Four, and if they win a look ahead to their game against Providence.

Wyoming and San Diego State play on Friday with the Cowboys tipping at the very early hour of 10:40 a.m. local time in Seattle. The Aztecs get a reasonable tip at 9:40 p.m. local time.

Also, to make everything 100 percent clear, we are biased against your team. Well not this time as we want the Mountain West to do as good as possible.
