Helion Prime was first conceived from a common love of metal and all things science. The band was founded when Jason Ashcraft (of Dire Peril) asked Heather Michele (of Graveshadow) to form a project with him. Between the two, they had worked with such artists as Mark Briody (Jag Panzer), Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers), Andy LaRocque (King Diamond), Ralph Scheepers (Primal Fear), Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon/Star One), and Niklas Isfeldt (Dream Evil). The concept; power metal with themes based on actual scientific theories with the occasional sci-fi tribute. The name Helion Prime was borrowed from an alien planet featured in the film "Chronicles of Riddick," a movie the two were great fans of. She accepted the exciting proposition without hesitation. The two recorded their first demo track in June of 2014, and with the help of members from Dire Peril and Axiom, Helion Prime debuted their first live performance in August 2014 at the Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA. The dynamic duo then released their first EP on February 26th, 2015 with a full length album in the works. Helion Prime’s lineup was completed after bringing Jeremy Steinhouse on bass and Justin Herzer (of Axiom) on drums. In August of 2015, Helion Prime set out on their first tour, playing shows in Oregon, Nevada, California, and Utah. Their debut album will be out at the end of February, and the band (who payed us a visit early last year) will be back on the show to premiere some new songs for all of you to hear, so be sure to tune in!!!
Join Kelli and Claudia as they recap the Super Bowl, deconstruct stupid tweets, and review yet another great band, Adelitas Way. This week is sure to be fun, funny, and who wants to miss fun AND funny, all at the same time?! No one!
You may have just viewed a brief description of Renee Rosnes within the parameters of this page. Trust and believe, you cannot be BRIEF when describing her talent! She has been noted as both pianist and composer for a long time - and we bless the day that she moved to New York from Vancouver in order to facilitate her reputation :)
Renee is also an arranger - please make note. And she is The "Go-To" goddess on keys for the filet mignon of artists within Jazz circles. Joe Henderson, Buster Williams, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson. They'll TELL you. James Moody asked her to join his elite circle of musical friends in 1989. Renee was with his band until his passing in 2010.
As well as her own endeavors, Renee has taken part in grand events that would exhaust mere mortals. She has been music director for prestigious affairs (one in particular comes to mind to honor her late, beloved boss, James Moody). She has produced at Lincoln Center, has been involved with the SF Jazz Collective, has interviewed for the "Jazz Times", and has hosted her own radio show for Canada's CBC.
Please let her website do the talking, though. One perusal at her "performances" page and you'll see the kinds of company that she keeps. With Jimmy Greene, with Cecile McLoren Salvant, Anat Cohen, Ingrid Jensen, Terri Lyne Carrington, and a mainstay in her life: Ron Carter. One of the most wonderful decisions that Renee has made in her career is to consciously seek out those with whom she has a connection - rare legends have asserted that they have a connection with RENEE. It's no surprise that this amazingly intuitive artist has won multiple Juno Awards. With a birthday coming in March - and with all of these fabulous CD release shows, there is MUCH to celebrate! Join us on 2/9 - and we'll do JUST that!
In this edition of All Subjects Everything, we'll discuss one of the greatest weekends (culturally) that Black women have had in a long time, led by new music (and an amazing video) from Beyonce as well as a new band camp jam from the underrated Missy Elliott.
We'll also get into Cam Newton's post-Super Bowl press conference - the shortness, the outrage, the foolishness that followed, we've got it all covered.
Honey Thief is inspired by the hit song The Honeythief by the band Hipsway, a popular group from Glasglow in the mid eighties. The lyrics read, "The light of deep regret Let me see what I don't get...Catch a thief, a honeythief". One thing is for sure, it will be hard to catch up with Lane as she takes off with her new project. The upcoming EP includes all live instruments and a smoother, softer, and more natural tone from Lane. Honey Thief is the perfect combination of the essence of Carrie Lane, sweet and savory.
Producer and Cowriter of Honey Thief's upcoming EP, James Strazza comments, "Carrie has been a joy to work with. I've been her producer for about a year and we've both grown a lot since we met. It takes guts to completely change your direction in this industry, but I was honored to help bring her new vision to fruition. We had all five songs written in about a months time, it happened very organically, nothing was forced. If one of us didn't like something or even felt a bit iffy, we dropped it and moved on. We didn't want any fillers on the EP, we wanted each song as strong as the last. We're both super happy with the tracks so far and looking forward to sharing them when they're finished. I think they're going to be very well received and this will be Carries best work to date. Her level of excitement and dedication to the new material speaks for itself."

“I’ve been a Caroline Sutherland fan ever since the first moment I met her in the ’90s. In fact, she fulfilled a dream of mine. At our first meeting, Caroline looked at me, clearly saw my deficiencies and nutritional needs, and on the spot designed a special plan for my particular body.
