The 10 Second Philosophy with Derek Mills

    in Spirituality

Derek Mills, Author of The 10 Second Philosophy
Derek is the son of Jamaican immigrants to the UK.  He grew up happily there with his six brothers and sisters, until, when he was 13; there was an unexpected death in the family.  This plunged him into the world of a stutterer.  He was silent most of the time and when encouraged to say something, he could barely form words.
After school and various menial jobs, Derek went into financial services as a trainee.  Throughout his 20s and 30s, far from being successful Derek had great financial challenges and debt.  He was working long hours that kept him away from his family, was depressed, and really at the end of his rope.  At one point in 2003, his situation became dire, and his family home was moments away from being repossessed by the bank.
In a moment of despair, Derek discovered a way to life his life differently and even cured his stuttering.  Out of this came a unique approach that changed everything.  Over the next four years he turned his life and business around, made his first million and people began to ask him how he did it.
Derek is author of The 10 Second Philosophy published by Hay House.  Using the power of True Self and the utilization of Standards instead of goals to achieve happiness and success, Derek is invited to speak publicly and to coach and advise others.

  • Live: Celebrating the memory of Jamaica's Reggae Icon Barbara Jones

    in Music

Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones Dies at the Age of 62

Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones died last Friday at the age of 62 in Kingston Jamaica. Her soul influenced reggae ballads propelled her to popularity in the seventies along with Judy Mowatt and Pam Hall.

Jones was born Barbara Nation in Kingston but grew up in Manchester, a rural parish located in central Jamaica. She began her musical career cutting a cover of American country singer Sue Thompson’s Sad Movies with the Soul Syndicate Band for Randy’s Records.

Most of her popular songs included, Evie Sands’ Angel in The Morning and Walk through This World with Me, originally done by Englebert Humperdinck and Dream Lover.

Jones toured with Jimmy Cliff as a backup singer, before giving up secular music in the early 1980s. She became a Christian and eventually recorded four gospel albums.

In May, Jones returned to her reggae roots by doing two shows in Brazil along with bassist/singer Lloyd Parks. They did shows in the cities of Teresina and Belem. Jones was shocked she had fans in Brazil, a vibrant market for so-called vintage reggae.

“I didn’t know my songs were so popular there. People always told me, I should go to Brazil as they love me there,” she told the Jamaica Observer during an interview after her return.

Barbara Jones is survived by her husband, three children and three grandchildren. The thanksgiving service for her life is scheduled for the Gregory Park Baptist Church on January 10. R.I.P Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones.http://jamaicandivas.com/tag/barbara-jones/

Division Titles and playoff seeding, on the line, what games will you watch?

    in Sports

In this episode of The Red Light Sports Rant, presented by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec stay away from a rant, and turn their attention to week 17, of the NFL.  There are four divsion titles on the line.  We start in the AFC, the Sunday night game, is for all the marbles, in the AFC North.  The Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers will battle to see who will host a playoff game.  Both teams have clinched a playoff berth with 10 wins.  Although, all other divisions are claimed, the AFC still has one playoff sport remaining.  Currently, the San Diego Chargers control their own destiny.  A Chargers win over Kansas City Chiefs, will put them in the playoffs.  A Chargers loss, could open the door for the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, or Kansas City Chiefs.

All of the NFC playoff berths are locked.  However, there are three division titles on the line.  The high powered NFC South (Ok, just a bit sarcastic) has the Atlanta Falcons (6-9) battling the Carolina Panthers (6-8-1).  A team under .500 will host a first round playoff game, next weekend.  The NFC West has the two 11-4 teams battling for the Division Title and possible first round bye.  The loser of the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks game, will have to go on the road, as a wildcard team.  Finally, the NFC North, is in the same situation, the loser of the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers, will travel next weekend.

What games are you most interested in watching?  What teams will claim their division title?  Listen in or call the show with your thoughts!
