    T G I F - Thank God I'm Free on this Thanksgiving Day - 2015

    in Politics

Happy Thanksgiving Day - Thank God I'm Free!

Since the settlement of the colonies, Americans were familiar with setting aside days of thanksgiving, prayer, and fasting in response to significant events. In 1789, President George Washington issued a proclamation designating November 26 of that year as a national day of thanksgiving to recognize the role of providence in creating the new United States and the new federal Constitution. Later, President Abraham Lincoln took steps towards designating it a permanent federal holiday.

Washington issued a proclamation on October 3, 1789, designating Thursday, November 26 as a national day of thanks. In his proclamation, Washington declared that the necessity for such a day sprung from the Almighty’s care of Americans prior to the Revolution, assistance to them in achieving independence, and help in establishing the constitutional government. Not ignoring the authority of state governments, Washington distributed his proclamation to the governors, requesting that they announce and observe the day within their states. Newspapers throughout the country subsequently published the proclamation and public celebrations were held. Washington himself marked the day by attending services at St. Paul's Chapel in New York City, and by donating beer and food to imprisoned debtors in the city.

NFL Thanksgiving Day preview when will you fit your turkey dinner in?

    in Sports

The NFL and Thanksgiving have become a tradition. Families gather to give thanks, enjoy a turkey dinner, and in many households, watch NFL football. The Detroit Lions always host the early game, and the Dallas Cowboys always host the afternoon game, and in 2006 the NFL added a primetime game. This game has no specified host team and rotates from year to year. The primetime game this year has the Chicago Bears visiting the Green Bay Packers.

The Philadelphia Eagles will visit Detroit, with a 12:30 PM ET kickoff. The Detroit Lions are 35-38-2 on Thanksgiving, and the Eagles have never lost on Thanksgiving, boosting a 6-0 record. Last year, the Eagles stuffed the Cowboys 33-10.  Both teams are struggling this year and enter the game with losing records. The Lions basically need a miracle to make the playoffs. The Eagles are only one game behind the New York Giants for first place, in the NFC East.

The undefeated Carolina Panthers visit the Cowboys who have Tony Romo back. Even at 3-7, the Cowboys still have hopes of making the playoffs only being two games behind the New York Giants. Carolina continues to win games, and are etching closer to locking up home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

The Chicago Bears visit Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers, in the prime time game. The Packers need to win to maintain first place, in the NFC North. The Bears have quietly improved to 4-6 and could be mentioned in the playoff race with a win.

Ah, Thanksgiving. A holiday filled with family, gratitude, and food, food, food! An interesting statistic about the day: an average plate of Thanksgiving classics contains anywhere from 1,600-3,000 calories — that's over most people's recommended daily allowance. While I am not trying to deter anyone from enjoying a great meal that can take hours, even days, to make, there are ways to make sitting down at the Thanksgiving table healthier. Tune in 11/ 19 at noon ET for my tips to Lose Weight On Thanksgiving Day!

So Random Saturday Special Thanksgiving Day Episode

    in Motivation

Gratitude is awe inspiring sunrise or sunset, a new born baby, a walk, an inspiring book, your family, your lover, your life; gratitude knows that you are the greatest show on earth.

As Thanksgiving approaches in the USA, people’s thoughts turn towards being grateful. Gratitude messages are everywhere this time a year. Gratitude memes quotes and thankfulness posts abound.

Studies and science show us that practicing gratitude can change our brains and our lives for good! In short, Gratitude increases energy, optimism, health and empathy.

So, why is it we only have one day or season (in the USA) associated with gratitude?

Gratitude is more than counting our blessings and being thankful to others in our lives during the holiday season.

Gratitude is a mindset, gratitude is a lifestyle.

Gratitude is you, me, us and everyone in our lives. Gratitude is possession. Gratitude is love.

Be thankful for the things that have made you who you are today. Be thankful for the things that have yet to show up that will make you who you are meant to be.

Join Carina and Michael for a celebration of gratitude on this special Thanksgiving Edition of So Random Saturday.

    Thanksgiving Day 2015

    in Politics

Thanksgiving is one of our nation’s favorite holidays, it has a far different meaning for many Wampanoag, who now number between 4,000 and 5,000. Turner said, “For the most part, Thanksgiving itself is a day of mourning for Native people, not just Wampanoag people.”It is an annual tradition started in 1970, when Wampanoag Wamsutta (Frank) James was invited by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to give a speech at an event celebrating the 350th anniversary of the Pilgrims’ arrival and then disinvited after the event organizers discovered his speech was one of outrage over the “atrocities” and “broken promises” his people endured. On the Wampanoag welcoming and having friendly relations with the Pilgrims, James wrote in his undelivered speech: “This action by Massasoit was perhaps our biggest mistake. We, the Wampanoag, welcomed you, the white man, with open arms, little knowing that it was the beginning of the end.”Indian Country Today

Walmart workers across the country and their supporters are fasting during the 15 days leading up to Thanksgiving and Black Friday later this week.
