As THOUSANDS of people across the WORLD take part in the WorldWide Solstice Festival, we'll be sharing and discussing just a few of the FANTASTIC images and news of the events here on this episode of At The Eyepiece. We may also have founders of the WorldWide Solstice Festival, Pamela Shivak and John W ONeal II call in as well and share how their individual outreach events are going LIVE on the air!
Have a Solstice Festival, or post solar or solstice related photos! It's that easy!
Join the SOLARACTIVITY Facebook group for more worldwide events and post up your images!
Our goal to share our love of all things solar with as many people as possible, to extend our reach, to cross cultural and ethnic lines, to share with the masses. Art, music, good food and good company will bring many more people to us and our telescopes, than an ad in a local paper advertising an astronomy outreach program.
The festival will encompass BOTH solstice dates. In June, northern hemisphere participants can do outside venues while Southern Hemisphere participants can schedule indoor activities, if weather warrants that. On the December date, we northerners can host indoor or virtual events and presentations while, our southern hemisphere participants can host their WORLDWIDE SOLSTICE FESTIVAL during their local summertime.
If there is no local festival in your area, clubs and individuals can partner with Metroparks, civic groups and/or business interests to start their own festival. You can invite musicians, bands, artists, crafts people, food vendors, solar power representatives, etc. Let your imagination be your guide! You can partner with Metroparks, Museums, libraries, your local NASA office, etc, etc
We have the joy of bringing to you Mike Phillips today to discuss planetary imaging techniques. Mike has been an amateur astronomer for many years, and is quite accomplished for his planetary imaging and even his deep-sky work. In addition to imaging, he was instrumental in launching the Google+ Hangout series called Virtual Star Parties with Fraser Cain (Universe Today Editor) a few years back. You can see Mike, and the Newtonian telescope he BUILT here on the official video that Google used to promote their Hangouts feature for Google+. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agrdjd0nyFo
So get your pencils and notebooks ready gang to learn some great stuff on this special episode of At The Eyepiece!

The Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project (CBSAP) is the worlds LARGEST astronomy outreach 501(c)3 nonprofit that is dedicated to promoting science literacy by sharing the fascinating science of our Sun. This organization brings observatory quality, narrowband solar telescopes and imaging equipment to over 150 schools and events per year. In 2012 they personally reached over 150,000 students and adults in 5 countries. They share, completely free of charge, live views of Sunspots, Solar Flares, Prominences, Filaments and other fiery magnetic phenomena near the surface of our nearest star, safely, and in three different wavelengths of light. Everyone are usually blown away by the incredible views of the Sun through these state of the art telescopes and cameras. Participants receive solar viewing glasses absolutely free at the event too, and in some cases can even bring home their own images of the Sun taken with these instruments!
This organizing is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, so in order to keep these public events completely free of charge, they need your help financially. Stephen Ramsden, the director and creator of CBSAP, will be live on air to answer your questions about science, solar astronomy, our Sun, his equipment etc. He is PASSIONATE about solar astronomy folks, and you will be captivated by hearing more about what he does, and his organization does each and every year to promote science, and in particular Solar astronomy to anyone and everyone.
In addition to Stephen, we will be joined by some of his busiest Solar Ambassadors from around the WORLD that will call in and share their own personal stories about sharing our Sun with others.

This one has been in the works for awhile, but we are finally ready to air it live! This topic comes to us from a vote via the Facebook group Telescope Addicts. This Facebook group is HUGE, with over 15,000 members, and we certainly want to thank Ahmed Jaber and all the wonderful people on Telescope Addicts for voting on a topic for this specific episode.
We are going to be joined by Craig and Tammy Temple, a dynamic duo in the world of astrophotography, having been published numerous times in Astronomy Magazine, Amateur Astronomy Magazine and others. In addition to being avid astrophotographers, they have also been doing a number of equipment reviews lately as well, having been published in Astronomy Magazine and Astronomy Technology Today.
Both Craig and Tammy will be on the air with us to discuss the importance of accurate image scale in astrophotography, and how you can ensure you get the best results with your camera and equipment combinations. Prepared to learn a lot folks from these expert astrophotographers!

We Earthlings have a definite love affair with space. There's no doubt about it. For thousands of years, we have probed the night sky, always searching and reaching for the stars. Our telescopes and mathematics gives us a wide array of understanding at how the universe works.
But it's the guy next door that really captures our interest.
Who can resist that red brownish tan or those murky clouds? He's smaller than us with a really thin layer of atmosphere but we have never let a little thing like that bother us. After all, interesting things come in small packages. For a long time, he gave us the slip, shining like a flare in the black of space at different times through the years. He'd get close enough for us to say hello but then move away again.
Just like a planet to get all elusive on us.
We Earthlings are an aggressive bunch so we made it our business to get to know him. In the 19th century, we made a breakthrough. We looked in our telescopes, peeked through the window. And what we saw has made us giddy for the past hundred years or so. Finally, we get to see what this planet's all about...or have we?
Join me as we discuss our love affair with Mars with my guest co-host and contributor, Douglas Woodward, author of the The Lying Wonders of Mars. You can call in at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or download the WLUV Radio mobile app today. Any way you can, join us.
They're at it again...radio telescopes are picking up regular pulses from unknown objects deep in space. While PhD's are frantically trying to explain them away, we'll ask Tarot what's really going on? In the second half: What would happen if the government said "Yup we've been lying all these years about UFO's." Bring your cards and read along!
