TEENS HOMICIDE, SUICIDE AND FIREARM DEATHS PART TWO

    in Social Networking

In 2010, males ages 15 to 19 were nearly four times more likely to commit suicide, six times more likely to be victims of homicide, and eight times more likely to be involved in a firearm-related death than were females of the same age.

    IMPORTANCE

Homicide and suicide is the second and third leading causes of death, respectively, among teen’s ages 15 to 19, after unintentional injury. In 2010, firearms were the instrument of death in 85 percent of teen homicides and 40 percent of teen suicides. While non-firearm injuries result in death in only one out of every 760 cases, almost one in four youth firearm injuries are fatal.

Although other teens are the perpetrators of many of the homicides of teens below age 18, two-thirds of the murderers are eighteen or older  Gang involvement has been associated with many teen murders; in 2002, nearly three-quarters of teen homicides were attributed to gang violence. Although school-related homicides receive substantial media attention, in the 2009-10 school years they accounted for about one percent of all child homicides.

Mood disorders, such as depression, dysthymia, and bipolar disease, are major risk factors for suicide among children and adolescents. One study found that more than 90 percent of children and adolescents who committed suicide had some type of mental disorder. Stressful life events and low levels of communication with parents may also be significant risk factors, Female teens are about twice as likely to attempt suicide; however, males are much more likely to actually commit suicide.

How to get through this #abuse by experience part 2

    in Lifestyle

this is the second day I will talk about this #abuse

We are in a world where you don't understand how things are in each family

The Cherch doesn't talk about it

So people in families don't ptalk about it either

We think we can just pick up and think we have it all together and we don't. We really don't

I was #abused when i was in my teens and at times you can't stop the pain but you can speak about it until something moves

We can grow unless we realize it's important to open your mouth I don't care who will hurt you something really has to change and guess what u can't beat  opening your mouth today

If nobody else talks about abuse you talk about it

If nobody else talk you talk and that's just the beginning of the healing process!

Until You Walk the Path, You Won't Know Where it Goes

    in Entertainment

Until You Walk The Path, You Won’t Know Where it Goes will be chatting with musician, author, and President of Guitars Not Guns, Gregg Hammond on April 16.2015 at 1 pm eastern as he talks about how the arts makes positive changes in children and teenagers' lives.

Musician, mentor, guitar teacher, philanthropist, and author born in DC. Gregg's family moved away from DC in the late 60's to escape the violence of the riots. The move landed him in the Florida Keys, where he grew up learning to live in the natural surroundings, teaching fishing, snorkeling, & exploring in the back country islands of the Keys. Hurricanes destroyed his guitar studio and then his home. With his dog and a guitar, he began a journey to find a larger purpose for his life. He traveled highways and mountain wilderness searching for his truth. Returning to DC in 2002, Gregg experienced violence in the streets. He and his father were randomly attacked by a gang of kids in '04. He was held at gunpoint by teens in '05, and nearly ambushed again by another gang in '06. These experiences compelled him to take action to make a difference. He founded GNG DC and volunteers his time wearing many hats within the charity to keep it going. He has witnessed miracles in the classroom. His vision includes bringing the world together, all playing the same song at the same time, featuring many of the Guitars Not Guns students up on the stages with great musicians like Paul McCartney, U2, and Ben Harper.
