Being Gay in Middle School- Who can you tell ?

    in LGBT

Most Gay's are in the closet even as Adults

Coming out refers to telling people that you aren't straight. These days, kids are coming out younger than ever before. When I was a teen in the 1990s, some teens came out in high school, but a lot more waited until college to do so. Now, middle schools across the country have openly GLBT kids.

There are a lot of reasons kids are coming out earlier. A lot of these, (like the fact that there is more support for GLBT issues and more awareness of them), are really positive. But while it can be great to be open about who you are from a young age, coming out in middle school can present unique challenges. Here some kids share their experiences and fears regarding coming out in middle school.

    in Sports

In this episode of The Red Light Sports Ramble, presented by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec will take a look at the NBA, NFL, and MLB.  While NFL football takes center stage all fall, we sometimes forget that there are three other major professional leagues.

The Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, and Memphis Grizzlies are off to a great start, in the NBA.  As the NBA All-Star game approaches, and we head to the second half; of the season, we will talk about who is a legitimate contender, and who does not have enough fire power.  The Cleveland Cavaliers have won six in a row, after losing six, in a row.  Have they put all their woe's behind them?

If you are not a New England Patriots or Seattle Seahawk fan, will you be watching the Super Bowl?  Did you enjoy the Pro Bowl?  What do you think the NFL has to do, in order to get better veiwership?  The new format had Cris Carter and Michael Irvin, drafting teams.  Team Irvin beat Team Carter, 32-28 with a fourth quarter touchdown.  Do you like how the end of each quarter, is like the end of the half, and the game?

Spring Training is right around the corner.  Will the Milwuakee Brewers resign K-rod, now that the Jonathan Papelbon trade seems to be over?  The Brewers had an event that drew 11,000 fans, does your team do anything in the offseason, that attracts fans? Listen in and call the show with your thoughts.

Gail Pallotta,Vanessa Riley,June Foster, and Connie Almony-The Fairy Tale Series

    in Books

The Fairy Tale Series - from Gail Pallotta

Mildred Colvin’s son, Jonathan, suggested his mother and each of her critique partners write a fairy tale and self-publish them.

We all agreed, saying we’d be there for each other if any of us got stuck during the process.

Mildred, who’s self-published over twenty books, spearheaded the effort. Vanessa Riley, who’s a talented designer as well as writer, volunteered to create a cover for each story.

We’re a laid-back group, so no one set rules about which fairy tales we chose or what direction we took with the retelling. We wanted and needed to make them consistent though.

First we discussed length and decided on novellas. Considering several options on how to tie them all together, we chose the location. June Foster had already started her story in a town called Fairwilde. We all agreed to put our characters there, but instead of having them in a particular town and state, we created Fairwilde Kingdom. I think this was important because it gave us a way to use more than one setting for our stories. Vanessa suggested the same size for the covers along with a title, sub-title and series name. We call each book A Fairwilde Reflection Novella.

We started writing and critiquing immediately. Working in our fantasy worlds for a year brought us lots of joy. We hope the novellas will do the same for our readers.

First out was At the Edge of a Dark Forest, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast by Connie Almony; next, Red and the Wolf, a version of Little Red Riding Hood by June Foster; third, Mirror on the Fall, an adaptation of Snow White by Mildred Colvin; fourth, Swept Away, a twist on Cinderella by Vanessa Riley and lastly Mountain of Love and Danger.

Deepertruth: Journey with Mary : Kibeho, Rwanda (Part Three)

    in Religion

We return to Africa one last time for the dramatic and chilling finale of the Virgin Mary's appearances in Rwanda.

On July 2, 2001, the Holy See released the declaration of Bishop Augustin Misago of Gikongoro, on the Apparitions that took place in 1982-83 in Kibeho. Here are some excerpts:

“Two study commissions, one of doctors and one of theologians, were immediately set up by the local Bishop; they have been at work since April 1982... The advanced state of the study commissions' work now offers sufficient elements to allow competent ecclesiastical authorities to pronounce definitively on this question.

“As a result, Bishop Augustin Misago of Gikongoro, who represents this authority, has published his declaration concerning the definitive judgement on the Apparitions of Kibeho, Rwanda. This important event in the history of the Diocese of Gikongoro, as in the life of the Church in Rwanda, took place on 29 June 2001, on the solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, during a solemn Mass concelebrated in the cathedral of Gikongoro. All the Catholic bishops of Rwanda, with the Apostolic Nuncio of Kigali, were present...

“The Bishop declared: Yes, the Virgin Mary appeared at Kibeho on November 28, 1981, and in the months that followed. There are more reasons to believe in the Apparitions than to deny them... The Apparitions of Kibeho are now officially recognized... The name given to the Marian sanctuary at Kibeho is"Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows".
