Navy Veteran: SR. Talent Acquisition Officer

    in Military

Phillip Dana is a US Navy veteran. He attended the United States Naval Academy. He is an expert senior talent acquistion officer. He will share his experiences and wisdom with us. We will begin with his military service, then move to his transtion experience. Recently, Phillip has led the HR team for a major, global corporation. Let's find out what he knows about getting hired too.

Phillip's last company merged with another in that industry. The larger company's VP of HR made Phillip's position redundant. So we can also hear how he is approaching his new job search and learn from his personal experience.

I have met with Phillip Dana. His family is legendary in Southern California. Phillip's ancestral relative is Richard Henry Dana, the author who sailed past Dana Point, CA in the mid 1880s, and for which that place is named. Richard Dana wrote about it in his best selling book that told the tale of that journey, "Two Years Before the Mast." .

Phillip Dana is an extraordinary man. He is also all Navy. When we met, the Army v. Navy football game was about to air. He was pumped. His intelligence and passion is evident from the first minute of being introduced. He is friendly, professional, and has a sincere concern for his fellow US veterans.

Talent Acquisition and Recruitment.....Are They The Same?

    in Business

Remember when HR was referred to as the personnel department?  It was non-strategic and little more than hiring employees, administering benefits, tracking attendance and handling employee issues.  Today HR is considered a core business function and the CHRO (that's Chief Human Resources Officer, by the way) has the enviable “seat at the table,” and in most cases is considered a key business partner to the CEO.

Not that long ago, talent acquisition was referred to as the recruiting department responsible for reviewing resumes, screening candidates, and organizing candidate interviews.  Today the phrase “talent acquisition” is now mainstream – and is embraced by both large and small organizations. Join us today as we interview Dr. Judith Enns, Executive Vice President of HR Solutions, an industry expert as it relates to Talent Acquisitions.

This Year We're Gonna Recruit Like It's 1999

    in Business

The TalentCulture #TChat Show is back live on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, from 7-8 pm ET (4-5 pm PT).

Last week we talked about how to become workplace fascinating, and this week we're going to talk about how 2015 will be the best year for recruiting since 1999.

Consider this: more jobs were created in 2014 than in any other year since 1999. According to a recent New York Times article, employers have hired more than one million people since November 1, 2014.

However, it's not all "Happy New Year" champagne and caviar; there is still an end-of-times dirge bemoaning that upwards of 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed.

Either way, company culture and transparent relationships will be the primary drivers for successfully recruiting and retaining employees in 2015. The talent acquisition teams that get this will facilitate winning.

Join TalentCulture #TChat Show co-founders and co-hosts Meghan M. Biro and Kevin W. Grossman as we learn about how 2015 will be the best year for recruiting since 1999 with this week’s guest: Will Thomson, Global Sales Recruiter for Rosetta Stone and the Founder of Bulls Eye Recruiting.

Thank you to all our TalentCulture sponsors and partners: TalentWise, Dice, Hootsuite, SAP/SuccessFactors, GreatRated! of Great Place to Work, IBM Smarter Workforce, CareerBuilder, PeopleFluent, Fisher Vista and HRmarketer Insight.

How Candidate Research and Relationship Building Win in Tech Recruiting

    in Business

The TalentCulture #TChat Show is back live on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from 7-8 pm ET (4-5 pm PT).

Last week, we talked about email productivity and a new way to work, and this week we're going to talk about how research and relationship building win in tech recruiting.

The competition for top tech talent is fierce, employers must still find creative ways to entice people with in-demand STEM skills to join their company -- getting to know who they're targeting is critical prior to and especially during outreach.

According to Dice's recent Tech Candidate Sentiment Survey, at least 50% of candidate respondents said that they wish recruiters would do more research on them and their background before calling, but this is significantly down from 2013.

The right online research tool combined with continuous relationship building and developing a repository for a ready pool of tech candidates, companies can competitively source the most qualified people when the time is right.

Join TalentCulture #TChat Show co-founders and co-hosts Meghan M. Biro and Kevin W. Grossman as we learn about how research and relationship-building win in tech recruiting with this week’s guests: Ashley Fox, Program Associate at Partnership for Public Service; and Pete Radloff, Lead Technical Recruiter with comScore.

Thank you to all our TalentCulture sponsors and partners: Dice, TalentWise, Hootsuite, IBM, CareerBuilder, PeopleFluent, Jobvite, Predictive Analytics World for Workforce and HRmarketer Insight.
