Comrades, Lovers, Friends and Kin;
Welcome to republic of love: art, cultural resistance and sacred mysticism from Toronto: Huron-Wendat, 6 Nations, 3 Fires Territory or, "the City of Living Corpses" as Emma Goldman liked to say.
We're live on-air monthly on the New Moon with reviews, panels, readings and music centred on radical culture from here at home, and around the planet.
Tune into episode #3 on Thursday, October 23rd at 9pm. Broadcasting live with gratitude from Alexis Mitchell's studio in Toronto's West End. This month, we’re focusing on pain and release, release and pain, repeat. Looking, listening, feeling, watching, wailing. By loving ourselves through struggle and mourning, we find the deepest compassion we know:
- a thoughtful encounter with Sarah Abu-Sharar and 2 young participants from the Expressive Arts Camp for Palestinian Children, held at Palestine House over Thanksgiving weekend
- a conversation with Sharlene Bamboat and Amy Fung on Mentoring Artists for Women's Art's recent event: Who Counts? A Feminist Art Throwdown Symposium about art, feminism and artist-run culture
- a new feature in the Republic: oral reading of an image that’s been on my mind by Nasrin Himada, writer and film curator. Nasrin will bridge the aural and the ocular for us, describing an image of her choice in fine detail for your hungry ears to transmit to your wild imagining mind
- from the Archive: 1997's Beloved Community: bell hooks and Cornel West discuss thier respectful disagreement as the "beginning of a fuller, deeper love" in their loving, committed comradeship
- readings from Hafiz, Tara Brach and music from Cheryl L'Hirondelle, Ferguson October and more

Mark Twain...quote...'AGE IS A MATTER OF THE MIND, IF YOU DON'T MIND IT DOESN'T MATTER."
How OLD is OLD for you. I know some in their 30s that act like they're 60, conversely I know people in their 90s and act like they're 30. Two women come to mind...Diva #1, age 96, her mind as clear and sharp as a bell, still driving. Diva #2, age 90, works mornings, drives to work, responsible for a plethora of chores. When she was telling me about her duties, I had an'AH' moment...OUR BRAINS DON'T AGE, WE DO. Both are keeping their brains active by participating in LIFE!
Do you have a passion for...etc.
Examples of Longevity...etc.
Vitamins and circulation...etc.
Living to AGE...120
24/7, the news is warning us about the threat of Ebola and ISIS. Americans are inundated with media coverage and politicians warning us of dire threats: Ebola and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Truth be told, is that most hyped up threats are not actually what is most threatening to Americans, while many larger dangers go mostly ignored.
Our political system and media can and does distort threats, leading Americans to overreact to minor dangers, while ignoring the BIG, challenging divisive problems--like climate change--that we should actually be worried about. Today, hear about the problems that we should be most concerned about, and let's focus on those.
John Bell, the extraordinary Voice of Reason, will try to set the record straight. http://www.johnbelltoday.com
