The Fairy Tale Series - from Gail Pallotta
Mildred Colvin’s son, Jonathan, suggested his mother and each of her critique partners write a fairy tale and self-publish them.
We all agreed, saying we’d be there for each other if any of us got stuck during the process.
Mildred, who’s self-published over twenty books, spearheaded the effort. Vanessa Riley, who’s a talented designer as well as writer, volunteered to create a cover for each story.
We’re a laid-back group, so no one set rules about which fairy tales we chose or what direction we took with the retelling. We wanted and needed to make them consistent though.
First we discussed length and decided on novellas. Considering several options on how to tie them all together, we chose the location. June Foster had already started her story in a town called Fairwilde. We all agreed to put our characters there, but instead of having them in a particular town and state, we created Fairwilde Kingdom. I think this was important because it gave us a way to use more than one setting for our stories. Vanessa suggested the same size for the covers along with a title, sub-title and series name. We call each book A Fairwilde Reflection Novella.
We started writing and critiquing immediately. Working in our fantasy worlds for a year brought us lots of joy. We hope the novellas will do the same for our readers.
First out was At the Edge of a Dark Forest, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast by Connie Almony; next, Red and the Wolf, a version of Little Red Riding Hood by June Foster; third, Mirror on the Fall, an adaptation of Snow White by Mildred Colvin; fourth, Swept Away, a twist on Cinderella by Vanessa Riley and lastly Mountain of Love and Danger.

2 Detroit Lions players (Golden Tate III and Matthew Stafford) make the Pro Bowl. How did they do individually? And no, I won't waste time talking about the football deflations with the New England Patriots, Marshall Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks, or Super Bowl XLIX, which starts next week.
The Red Wings have won 5 in a row, but they should still cut ties with defenseman Jonathan Ericsson. He has played a heck of a lot worse than everyone else on this roster, and he's still a virus the way I see it. I explained it on my own website blog a few days ago. And no, I won't talk much about the NHL All-Star Game, especially considering the fact that there were no Red Wings players in it, although I would've preferred Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar to be there.
The Pistons lose Brandon Jennings, which is a devastating blow, but that is NOT their biggest problem. What IS their biggest problem is their defense, and that's been their biggest problem all season. They've given up over 100 points per game all season thus far. They need to stop worrying so much about Brandon Jennings and just play tougher defense.
Why the Spartans and Wolverines will both still make the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Michigan State is 13-7, and Michigan is 12-8. Neither of them will win either of the 2015 Big Ten titles (regular season or tournament)
The Tigers lose Max Scherzer to the Washington Nationals on a 7-year, $210 million contract, which very well decreases their chances of winning the World Series in 2015, but Justin Verlander is getting "better than ever".

The shadow of crisis has passed, the state of the union is strong. Has the shadow of crisis passed, or are the storm clouds gathering to overshadow all previous crises with a mega-crisis. Republicans kept the House, they gained the Senate and President Ebola still thinks he won. You can’t blame him because the ‘severely’ conservative GOP has handed him everything his handlers want. The push and pull between the Stupid Party of Big Government Imperialism and the Evil Party of Bigger Government Socialism leans only to fascism. This is the Slaying of the Union! The elite pigs are gutting the sheep and you Mr. & Mrs. America are the sheep: stacked, packed and gutted all the while willingly heading to the slaughter under the soft symphony of mind-numbing propaganda: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.
As mercenaries and jihadis create chaos and instability across the globe, the house of cards masquerading as an international financial system teeters on the brink of collapse, yet the media talks of economic recovery, record highs on Wall Street, massive middle-class savings, crashing oil prices and inflation. Or is that deflation? No, not the manipulation of the money supply by oligopoly banking, the deflation/inflation of balls–not just the balls thrown by Super Bowl quarterbacks, but the deflated balls of Congress and the inflated balls of the president’s wife and handlers like Valerie Jarret and the same Neocons who brought you the disaster of a Republican-controlled Congress and Imperial Presidency of Bush II. The same pricks now preparing for ReRomney and Bush III. All is well in America, except that it isn’t. Are you going to sit back and watch the slaying of the union or will you stand up and resist tyranny?
