[itvt] is pleased to present an audio recording of the TVOT 2014 session, "A City Is Another TV Channel." The session was described in the show brochure as follows:
"Entertainment is only one of many content types arriving on television and second and third screens. Increasingly, individuals and households are using these screens to consume services that leverage the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT): One of the most exciting developments in the IoT is taking place around an increasingly sensorized and annotated urban environment. First-generation services like Yelp and Foursquare are early successes. But even greater growth awaits, which will demand more sophisticated solutions, architectures and user interfaces, many of which will employ video and be delivered as televisual experiences. This session will bring together representatives from the world of advanced-television, screen design, urban theory and beyond to explore the ways in which the city will become a channel of the TV of Tomorrow." Panelists included:
Fabian Birgfeld, Director, W12 Studios
Don Dulchinos, President, Smart Home and Away (Moderator)
Melanie Nutter, Consultant (Former Director of the Department of the Environment, City and County of San Francisco)
Popular former "Face Off" contestant Eric Fox (aka Foxy) is taking on Hollywood with his charmingly sinister personality and characteristic good humor in the original Syfy docu-special, "Foxy & Co." Foxy appeared on season four of "Face Off" and became an immediate fan favorite thanks to his original style, wild imagination and mad-scientist-like creations. This all-new special follows Foxy as he opens up his very own creature effects shop with the help of fellow former "Face Off" contestants Nicole Chilelli, RJ Haddy and Roy Wooley. But this time, instead of competing against each other, the artists have come together as one unbelievably creative force. From creating dozens of zombies for the upcoming Brian Pulido film Zack the Zombie Exterminator to an inspirational breast cancer awareness campaign for the Los Angeles County Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the team dives into each job with artistic passion and consistently hold themselves to only the highest of standards. Komen ambassador Kimberly Williams makes a guest appearance. "Foxy & Co." is produced by Mission Control Media with Michael Agbabian, Dwight Smith and James Flint serving as executive producers.
On October 15, at Noon, my guest will be Ken Conn. Affectionately known to his friends as Cajun Ken, Ken was born and raised in the deep South, spending most of his formative years in the port cities of Mississippi and Louisiana. While having a strong love for the South and appreciation for his Southern roots, he also has had a lifelong fascination with New York City. So strong was the lure, that at age twelve he ran away, making it as far as the Port Authority before New York City police found him and put him on a bus back to the dusty roads of Mississippi.
Ken found his love for cooking at age twenty while working aboard an offshore tugboat. There he learned hands-on from the boat’s cook and developed a passion for the Cajun style and food experimentation. Ken is mostly self-taught and thinks that not having been professionally trained as a chef is an advantage. It gives him credibility when he tells people who say they can’t boil water that he’ll have them cooking a true Southern down home meal in no time. Fulfilling his dream, Ken moved to New York City from Biloxi Mississippi in 2004.
He loves the city as much as he thought he would as a kid, but also takes frequent trips home to see family and immerse himself in Southern ambiance. Changing cities didn’t change his passion for food. What began as an informal instruction for friends developed into a series of cooking classes taught and organized by Cajun Ken. Looking to reach more people, Ken began to develop and produce a network cooking show. Cajun in the City now airs to over 1 million New Yorkers each week and is slated to air in Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx in Fall 2014.

Lingospot, a provider of automatic scene-level TV metatags and metacontent, last week announced a partnership with "augmented TV" company, SeeSpace. The latter has developed an ACR-enabled device dubbed InAiR, which, when connected via HDMI between a TV and a set-top box, enhances programming with what the company describes as "a rich, dynamic and animated viewer experience using the main TV screen as well as the space between the screen and the viewer" (the experience is designed to work on 2D, 3D and 4K TV's). The deal with Lingospot will see the latter powering the content for InAiR's augmented-TV experience: the company uses natural language processing, semantic search, image analysis and machine learning technologies to analyze "multiple modalities" of a TV broadcast and automatically extract metadata; and then enhances TV viewing by adding relevant metacontent, such as articles, photos and tweets.
In this recorded interview with [itvt] editor-in-chief Tracy Swedlow, Lingospot co-founder and CEO, Nikos Iatropoulos, and SeeSpace co-founder, Anne-Marie Roussel, discuss their companies' new deal and the ways in which they are collaborating to enhance the viewing experience.
