Music by DJ Ben Castaneda
Singer/Songwriter Offiong Bassey
Singer/songwriter and poet, Offiong Bassey, is an exciting artist who draws upon the numerous influences that have touched her life. As the first generation from her Nigerian family born in the U.S., the soul, jazz, and gospel music of America reside within her just as comfortably as the musical traditions of West Africa. She brings to them her unique ear for harmonies and phrasing, her ground-shaking, power vocals, and her unmatched versatility to create music that is fresh, inspiring, and just plain fun.
Her debut album, "Offiong Bassey" (released on her label Moonlit Media Group), is a nuanced, mosaic of songs that truly represent who she is as an artist – a genre-bending mix that includes Afro-Peruvian rhythms, funk, R&B and Nigerian Ekombi. The album debuted at #2 on the CMJ New World Music adds chart its first week in radio promotions and reached #4 on the Soultracks music chart.

Years ago my, long time, friend Arthur Hawkins introduced me to the TED TALKS (www.ted.com/). According to Wikipedia TED was founded in 1984 as a one-off event. The annual conference began in 1990, in Monterey, California. TED's early emphasis was technology and design, consistent with its origins in the Silicon Valley.
Since June 2006 the talks have been offered for free viewing online, under Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs Creative Commons license, through TED.com. As of April 2014, over 1,700 talks are available free online By January 2009 they had been viewed 50 million times. In June 2011, the viewing figure stood at more than 500 million and on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, TED Talks had been watched one billion times worldwide.
Our special guest this week is author Susan Cain, who was just awarded the Golden Gavel award.
Susan Cain is the best-selling author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking & a 2012 TED speaker. I had written a Huffington Post piece on historic speeches & where we lack them -- I wanted to talk to Susan about why that might be, because nowadays almost all of us are asked to get up to speak about something at some point -- and it's American's No. 1 fear! (Take the Quiz to see if you're an introvert before the show!)
*love all these Qs!
Joining us later in the half hour! Sally Newell Cohen, Managing Director of Communications for Toastmasters Internat'l to discuss the Golden Gavel being bestowed upon Susan Cain.
Producer: Robert Gonyo

We are thrilled to announce that we had the opportunity to speak with the lovely Susan Cain, the author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts this past week. Susan provided some very insightful answers into the differences between extroverts and introverts, and how this dynamic is affecting the way we work, communicate, and live. The conversation will be released today, August 24, at 3 p.m. EST.
Susan gave a TED talk this March, speaking about some of her personal experiences of being an introvert and how people respond to it. In our culture, a lot of people do not realize that a third to a half of people are introverts. Furthermore, it is greatly misunderstood. Introversion is largely about how people respond to stimulation and specifically, social stimulation. Extroverts obviously generate a lot of "noise" and stimulation in response to social situations, while introverts digest and observe. In a very aggressive and dominant American culture, you can see how it is easy for there to be a bias towards introverts.
On Friday's podcast, Chad joined us for a "Fireside Chat" about The Origin of the Species..."Creationism vs. Evolution." Tonight's podcast combines politics, current events and religion..."How do the politics and religion of the 21st Century 'square up' to the Genesis story of Cain and Abel???" Are the politics and religion of the 21stCentury really another version of Cain and Abel taken to the "nth degree???" Hopefully, Chad will be joining us with his insights and comments. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
