Tonight's special guest is Linda Dueling from Omaha, Nebraska, a child abuse survivor and active NAASCA volunteer family member. Linda was sexually abused and eventually raped by her Grandpa. This went on until she was about 8 years old. Later, at 12, she would 'fall in love' with a 20 year old who introduced her to IV drugs. At 15 she ended up living on the streets with a boy and they were eventually arrested for 'breaking and entering' when they tried to find shelter. He was sent to Juvenile Hall, but Linda was released to her mother. "Mom slapped and hit me the whole walk home about 12 blocks." She ran away again and experienced a horrible gang rape by a group of 'friends'. Linda says. "I know GOD saved me that night." Linda began using drugs again and meet a boy who would become her husband. "He began hitting me within months," Linda says. "I was beaten daily." It took nearly 2 decades before she joined a church and got clean. For a while things got better. She earned a Certificate in Counseling for Addiction. She built businesses and was seen as a 'success'. "I had over come my addiction and my marriage was now 'healthy' by everyone's standards. Yet I felt dead." In 2008 she tried to take her life. "I was held at the hospital for almost a month. When I left I went into Intensive Outpatient Therapy 5 days a week, four hours a day." In 2010 she'd had enough. "I left for a business trip and never returned home." Her life has improved but she knows she still has a long way to go. She pushes on "Telling this side of my story with out protecting anyone in the process is a new journey."

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "Child Abuse, Trauma and 12-Step Recovery" - STEP 4 (and we'll include a bit about TRADITION 4) - SCAN host Bill Murray will be joined by special guest co-host Rivka Edery, MSW, LCSW, author of the book "Trauma and Transformation: A 12-Step Guide." Bill founded the recently launched Adult Survivors of Child Abuse Anonymous (ASCAA). Together they will lead tonight's discussion on STEP 4: "Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves."Most survivors, unless they are in a crisis, do not put much thought into what happened; the people, places, things, and reactions to events that have long-shaped their life. But if you have not yet taken a look at what traumata shaped your personality, behaviors, fears, and ways of responding in life, Step Four is a good opportunity to stop and think about it. Perhaps you have reached the day when you realize that you are not living your life as you really want to. Perhaps you feel a deep inner longing for healthy, secure attachment, love and a more kind relationship with yourself. You may experience a longing for life as you were told it was supposed to be but you have no evidence that you are living such a life. ~~ A child abuse survivor herself, Rivka Edery has been active in the 12 Step community for nearly 20 years. Bill Murray credits his 30 plus years of recovery to the spiritual power of the 12 Step program, too. ~~ Join us every two weeks to further examine a 12 Step approach to recovery from abuse. Next show we'll address STEP 5 & TRADITION 5. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/Trauma-12Step or write to Rivka at: email@example.com
According to Cancer Research UK, 1 in 3 of people will develop cancer of some sort in their lifetime. The cause of most diseases including cancer remains unknown. Treatment is therefore of the symptoms of diseases rather than the causes of the disease itself. Unsurprising, 75% of all visits to the doctor involve symptoms of illness which are based on excessive or chronic stress. Whilst medication helps in the short term, current scientific research indicates that unless chronic stress is addressed in a timely manner, further diseases are inevitably created. Ignoring the psychosocial and emotional aspects that are impacted on the individuals life produce an ever revolving cycle of mental instability that impacts on the person's ability to function within the normal realms of well-being. Therefore the need to take responsibility for our health and well-being has never been so important. In this segment of The NLP View Radio Show host, Donna Blinston, RGN talks to Marion Dias, about her best-selling book Why Did the Cancer Disappear: Become Free From Cancer & Promote Health.

Karen Newell is an innovator in the emerging field of brainwave entrainment audio meditation, Karen empowers others in their own journeys of discovery. Along with Dr Eben Alexander, they healing in new ways!
Meditation & heart awareness were central elements to her many different subjects of study. But Karen found it extremely challenging to sit still with focused attention for any length of time. She discovered that the most effective aid for meditation was monotonous sound — not music and singing melodies, but the simple tones produced by crystal bowls, tuning forks, gongs, chimes and human chanting.
When it came to modern methods Karen found that the regular practice of listening to recordings containing binaural beats minimized distracting thoughts and restlessness, allowing her to finally reach the expanded states of awareness she sought. Karen joined with Kevin Kossi to create original recordings unmatched by any others either had experienced. Together they created Sacred Acoustics. sacredacoustics.com

Raquel Benavidez welcomes Anthony Baca Jr, child of divorce, advocate, Bernie Sanders supporter, loving man and my son. Aj was just 4 yrs old when his father and I divorced. He is here to share with us his story and perspective of all things divorce. Many times, we as the adults think we are doing our best, but it’s not always easy. While the adults were making the decisions, it was Aj that dealt with the consequences. AJ will be sharing his thoughts on the early years and how it all turned out in the end.
AJs perspective on the whole scenario of divorce and blended families is so important for parents to listen to. It was difficult for all of us through the transition, but for him mostly. Aj now sees the beauty in our relationship and how his family actually didn’t break apart, but grew. He now has 4 brothers and sisters that love him unconditionally and a stepmother that is supportive, along with his two parents that are just crazy about him.
AJ Baca lives in New Mexico with his family. He works with American Airlines and loves to travel. He enjoys politics and playing video games.
Raquel Benavidez is a blended, broken and dysfunctional family survivor. She has flourished in creating her own new family dynamic. One that is filled with love, support and acceptance for all. Connect with her on Facebook at It’s a Family Affair

I was born in Haifa, Palestine, in November 1936. Palestine then was a British Mandate. In 1933 my parents got married and immediately emigrated to Palestine. They both were Jewish and very idealistic and part of a Zionistic movement. My father has been a busdriver and musician in the Palestine Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1939 my parents decided to travel – by boat – to the Netherlands to show me to the family. I was 2 ½ years old and I don’t have any memories of Palestine. We have been 8 weeks on a boat. In February 1940 my brother Ruben has been born in Rotterdam; we were living near to our family. The next very dramatic happening in my life was the German bombardment of the city of Rotterdam. For the whole of the Netherlands the real beginning of the Second World War. This I can remember very well. I was completely hysterical. We had to leave Rotterdam and found a short shelter with friends in the center of the country. I remember almost permanently sitting under the table, refusing to eat, being terribly frightened. Then the organization of the Resistance found us a house in Bennekom near the rest of our family in a village were a lot of Jews were accepted to live temporarily. One of my last nice memories before hiding was the visit of my grandmother, arriving in a coach with horses, celebrating our half a year birthday. (I have been born on the birthday of my grandmother). That was the last time I ever saw her and I deeply loved her. After the war my parents found out that she was gassed in concentration camp Auschwitz (15 oktober 1942, 61 years old). About two months later my mother told me that my brother and I were going to stay with a very nice aunt for a while – no, and I didn’t know her. No, we could not take any toys with us.
