    Profile:Kevin McDonald/Director/Oscar Win/Black Sea/Touching the Void

    Kevin Macdonald won an Academy Award as director of One Day in September, which was voted Best Documentary Feature in 2000. Mr. Macdonald’s 2003 feature Touching the Void became the highest-grossing British documentary in U.K. box office history. The film won the Evening Standard and BAFTA Awards for Best British Film. His first non-documentary feature was The Last King of Scotland. Forest Whitaker’s performance as Idi Amin earned the actor the BAFTA and Academy Awards for Best Actor, among other honors. The movie additionally won BAFTA Awards for Best British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as BAFTA (Scotland) Awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor (James McAvoy). Mr. Macdonald was named Best Director at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs), and cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle won the Best Technical Achievement BIFA. He next directed the Washington-set thriller State of Play, starring Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck, which earned him a London Critics’ Circle Film Award nomination; the Roman epic adventure The Eagle, also for Focus Features and Film4, starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell; and the wartime drama How I Live Now, starring Saoirse Ronan and Harley Bird, both of whom received British Independent Film Award nominations for their performances.Concurrently, Mr. Macdonald’s feature documentary work as director has continued apace with Marley, his acclaimed film about Bob Marley’s life and work, which received BAFTA and Grammy Award nominations, among other honors ; and Christmas in a Day and Life in a Day, both of which showcased footage contributed by filmmakers all over the world in 24-hour periods.     Co-Host Sabrina Schmidt Gordon is currently the co-director of The Black Documentary Collective, an organization founded by renowned documentary filmmaker, St. Clair Bourne. Sabrina is a film editor and producer who made her editing debut with an Emmy-winning episode of WGBH’s Greater Boston Arts series. She is the co-producer and editor of HIP-HOP: BEYOND BEATS AND RHYMES, a documentary about manhood and gender politics in mainstream HipHop that premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and was broadcast nationally on PBS' Independent Lens. 


    Jessica Green is the Cinema Director of Maysles’ Cinema, host of the upcoming series on Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck. She is also associate producing an adaptation of Henry James' The Beast In the Jungle and producing a documentary on Graffiti titled Anything You Can Get Away With. She got her new media sea legs as the executive editor of BET.com from 2000 independent hip hop magazine Stress (1994-2001). 


    Jake Perlin is currently the Programmer at Large for The Film Society of Lincoln Center, host of the upcoming series “Tell It Like it Is: Black Independents in NYC 1968-1986” opening on February 6th. He is the Executive Director of Artists Public Domain, a nonprofit film production and consultation organization that includes Cinema Conservancy, which preserves and releases works of American independent cinema. From 2003 to 2011, he was the Associate Film Curator at BAMcinématek and in 2013, he co-programmed the New Yawk New Wave series with Bruce Goldstein at Film Forum.

    Terrell Sandefur is a visionary leader, a relationship broker, publicist, and founder and owner of The SoChi Gallery - an art and event venue in Macon, Georgia. 


    He has put Macon on the world's map in the film industry.  Movie Maker Magazine name MFF as one of the "Top 25 Cooliest Film Festival in the World."


    He is the immediate past president of the Macon Film Festival and has served as the film festival marketing chair and emcee since 2006. He is also a member of the Macon Film Commission, past president of the Macon Arts Alliance and a 2009 Cultural Award winner. A proponent & promoter of indie filmmaking and filmmaking in Georgia, he has worked on several films in a variety of capacities, including media relations, social media management, casting, location scout, production manager, prop master, actor and producer. He has helped facilitate several films to be shot in Macon.


    Terrell currently lives in Macon, Georgia with his wife, Kim, and twin teens, Wyatt and Nina.
