    in Health

    In this show you’ll learn:

What sugar addiction and being sugar sensitive is all about.
Why your sugar addiction has more to do with your biochemistry than your willpower.
How food can be the healer when dealing with a sugar addiction.

    Background and Guest Information:

You probably think your sugar addiction is about lack of willpower or discipline or motivation. It is not. It is about your biochemistry.
Sugar addiction is not a joke or a fad. It is a serious problem for your health and happiness.

Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D., is the bestselling author of Potatoes Not Prozac, The Sugar Addict’s Total Recovery Program, Your Last Diet, Little Sugar Addicts, and Your Body Speaks.

    Overcoming Sugar Addiction

    in Nutrition

I am delighted to talk to author Karly Randolph Pitman. Karly is the author of the best selling Overcoming Sugar Addiction, Overcoming Sugar Addiction for Life, The 30 Day Lift, Heal Overeating: Untangled, and Heal Your Body Image. You can also find her in the hit weight loss film, The Inner Weigh, and on The Daily Love, where she's a contributing writer. ?Karly Randolph Pitman has done it all when it comes to getting stuck in food. Her 20 year struggle with sugar addiction, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive overeating, and body hatred - as well as her lifelong struggles with anxiety and depression - have been both her greatest challenge and her greatest teacher.
These struggles sent her on a healing journey into self compassion, self acceptance and unconditional love. Karly synthesized these practices into a process she calls growing human(kind)ness. Growing human(kind)ness is a map to create emotional healing from eating disorders and addiction - the "how to" of how to love yourself.
Nutrition, sugar, women, and our complicated relationships with food are subjects I (Nadia Giordana) never get tired of talking about, and I think many of my listeners feel the same way. This is going to be a great program.
You can learn more about Karly at www.karlyrandolphpitman.com and read her blog at www.firstourselves.org. For more help on becoming sugar free, visit Karly at www.sugar-addiction-book.com, where you can sign up for a free weekly email on how to find emotional freedom from sugar.

The Book That Made Sugar Freedom Possible.

    in Weight Loss

Let's face it. The low carb/high fat approach is still not politically correct.  Eliminating added sugar is getting lots of support in the media these days from films like Fed Up, and books like Fat Chance by Dr. Robert Lustig.

The truth is, I didn't just eliminate sugar in order to lose more than 65 pounds, and keep it off (with a 6 month period of re-gain which I will describe on today's show) for six years and counting.  I also completely eliminated grains, I ate more fat, and most shocking of all, I occaisionally practiced intermittent fasting.  I was truly afraid to tell anyone how I had lost all my weight, let alone write publicly about it.

Then, I saw Dr. David Perlmutter on the Dr. Oz Show.  He was talking about his book, Grain Brain.  I bought the book, read it, and followed Dr. Perlmutter's dietary approach in order to get back to my happy weight.  The most important conviction I gained from Grain Brain was that I never ever had to eat grains again.  Finally, I had the courage to write my story, and share my own approach to sugar and grain free living.  If you've decided to let grains go for good, I hope you'll listen today, and read Grain Brain, by Dr. David Perlmutter
