It is with great Behind the Prose pride that I share awesome news about Natalie Baszile's first novel. Queen Sugar is moving to Oprah Winfrey's OWN network under the helm of "Selma" director Ava DuVernay.
I am proud, but I'm not surprised. Days before the news broke, I wrote "If there ever was a novel that surely will be a movie, Queen Sugar is it."
I met Natalie at the 2012 VONA Voices Workshop. In a nonfiction workshop taught by Faith Adiele, I had the pleasure of reading excerpts of Natalie's memoir in progress. The same rhetorical qualities that endeared me to her writing are earning her praise in a number of reviews: eloquence, description, and confidence.
But in the words of the first book reviewer I knew, "Don't take my word for it."

Selenium is an essential mineral. Your body needs it to function. It protects your cells—and DNA—from free radical damage. But you may not be getting enough.
Selenium levels in soil vary from region to region. Poor soil quality and gastrointestinal illnesses put you at risk for low selenium levels. The problem is there are no clear signs of deficiency. Your first symptom could be low immunity, high blood sugar… Or worse. Don’t wait until you know you need more to start paying attention. Tune in Wednesday March 4, 2015 for the rest of the story.

No pay, no game - Unprofessional behaviour of artistes chases away major record labels. The '70s,'80s and early '90s were the glory days of Jamaican music, with several of the island's artistes inking record deals with esteemed and internationally acclaimed recording labels, including Island Records, CBS Records, Colombia Records, EMI, Rolling Stones Records, among others. Fast-forward to 2015, one can't help but wonder, where have all the major labels gone?
Veteran entertainment manager Copeland Forbes believes major labels severed ties with Jamaican artistes because of unprofessionalism and a lack of vision. The effect of the anti-Jamaican music campaign led by the homosexual community was also brought under the microscope.
According to the man who has represented icons like Beres Hammond, Gregory Isaacs, The Wailers, Peter Tosh, Ziggy Marley, Sugar Minott, among others, during his career, Jamaican artistes need to be taught proper business ethics and attitude. He also credited Shaggy's success to his ability to make good business decisions.
"Some of these artistes, if you tell them to go overseas to do some promotions, if dem nah get paid, dem nah guh. Mi see me and Shaggy just reach New York from Japan on a 15-hour flight and he received a call saying his song just took off in England and they needed him to make an appearance. The same night, Shaggy took a flight to England and it was free because it's promotion. But some of these artistes won't do that. Dem a guh tell yu sey dem have to go home to eat, and do this and that. So the major labels are there to help us, but we must pull our weight too," he said
For over centuries, music has been an essential aspect of the entertainment world. It has been an inspiration for action and even movements. Music isn't just instruments or a certain voice on a song, it is a form of art that takes you on a journey. The artist of course, is the fore front of the masterpiece, but it is ultimately defined according to the conditions of its production. Queens, New York native, James Worthy has been professionally creating his own footsteps in the music industry for about five years now. Growing up his parents were the first to introduce him to the sounds of music. While some kids just listened to a song to dance and sing along to, he was fascinated with the production and wanted to learn exactly how it was made. Now residing in Atlanta, GA as an established music producer and songwriter,
