Host Deardra Shuler talks to Charles Bobbit, James Brown friend and manager. Bobbit will talk about his rags to riches story with Deardra. Bobbit also managed Michael Jackson and was the personal advisor to President Omar Bongo of Gabon. Born in 1930, in the back woods of North Carolina, Charles was whisked to Brooklyn, NY by his eldest sister after the loss of his mother to cancer. During his young adult years, he worked as a porter. He later worked for the New York City Transit Authority, laying rails at night. Later he deemed the entertainment industry was an escape from menial labor, although he could neither sing nor dance.
Mr. Bobbit’s first introduction to the realization of his dream was when he first saw Mr. James Brown, “The Godfather of Soul” perform at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY. He was awestruck and proclaimed to his wife that he would one day work as Brown’s Personal Manager. Although thwarted originally, by 1965, he won a job as James Brown's valet and later became Brown's friend and manager up to the day Brown died. The book, "Making it Happen," tells Brown and Bobbitt's story. It was Mr Bobbit who gave James Brown the title, “Godfather of Soul.” Bobbit was instrumental in the arrangement of “Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud.” and the musical scores for the movie, “Black Caesar,” starring Fred Williamson. Bobbit met President Omar Bongo of Gabon and worked with Bongo's son cutting a few albums. The family hired Bobbit as their advisor taking Bobbit to heights that he couldn’t even imagine. He later worked with Michael Jackson becoming his friend and confidante.

I want to hear what you have to say! So, Let's Talk About It!
A conspiracy theory is an explanatory proposition that accuses two or more persons, a group, or an organization of having caused or covered up, through secret planning and deliberate action, an illegal or harmful event or situation
Today's Topic: Is it possible to fix a problem that we don't understand why it exists? We can rally against violence, cry out, publish news stories, but unless we understand why it continues to happen, we're unable to understand how to effectively prevent it from happening. Do you ever wonder if it is a simple solution to stopping the violence in the black community; perhaps one that others know but refuse to help with? Today we're breaking open the research trying to figure out why the violence is increasing in the black community and we need your help! We aren't experts, but we believe that if we can find an effective reason, we can create an effective solution. Only then can we get national attention the right way! Join us 7pm CST

If you don't know by now, the NFL's punishment for Ray Rice's actions toward his wife was a two game suspension. Does this open the door for athletes? Do you believe some players in the major sports will get the idea that they can "get away" with it like Ray did? What is your opinion? There are two sides to all stories. But, I am a proponent of being able to protect yourself. The "never hit a woman" rule does not give women carte blanche to do whatever they want, say whatever they want, etc. Especially in the times we live in now. Men will kill you, without blinking. Why put yourself in an ill position on purpose, especially with someone you "know" is violent. Now, if a man without any provocation or reason just starts beating a woman senselessly, there is no reason for that. Whoopi Goldberg and other women have said there is no reason a woman should put her hands on a man. And there is no reason a man should put his hands on a woman. But if a woman does so, she leaves the door open for a response. If you shoot a gun at someone, expect to get shot back. The reason this issue is so big, the essence that athletes, movie starts, musicians have an elevated right to do whatever they want, whenever they want and it's "swept under the rug" and "all is forgiven" after a period of time. It's not. You know there were women blaming Rhianna for getting beat up by Chris Brown? Does that sound reasonable?
