In this episode I will discuss the language used in the Florida Statute of self-defense that contains the "Stand Your Ground" section. This was used for the defense of George Zimmerman, for the murder of Trayvon Martin. It is also being used as the "excuse" for the corruption and institutionalized racism of the Florida judicial system.
My guests tonight are: Senator Chris Smith Florida State District 31, John C. Barnett Civil Rights Activist, Alicia Reece Ohio State Black Caucus and Ohio State House Representative A stand-your-ground law is a type of self-defense law that gives individuals the right to use

Dunn was charged with fatally shooting 17-year-old Jordan Davis in 2012 after they got into an argument over loud music that was coming from the parked SUV Davis was in outside a Jacksonville convenience store. Dunn, who is white, had described the music to his fi

Marissa Alexander, a young mother facing sixty years in Florida prison for firing a single warning shot at her abusive husband to scare him away. George Zimmerman, chased and shot a young black male taking his life...gets acquitted of all charges. Michael Dunn initiates, instigates and pursues a fight, kills a teen after chasing a retreating car and firing ten times, and he is convicted of ATTEMPTED murder...all have three things in common...The state of Florida, the Stand Your Ground Law, and Prosecutor Angela Corey. Whats the formula? Black and White components and the legal system. Whats the outcome? An explosion of black smoke...one that seemingly burns through the Black race and slaps the wrists of its White counterparts.
The scales of a supposed "colorblind" system seems to tip quite clearly in the favor of White America. Not one execution carried out since Florida implemented the death penalty in 1976 was done so to a White who murdered a Black, and under Corey's prosecutorial tutelage, 21 criminals were sentenced to death row, of which 14 were Black. Black offenders get buried while long, executive decisions must be made before even charging a White offender of the same crime can be decided upon. These are just a few factors that lend support to racially-biased justice in the state of Florida. Is this an ad campaign that is sending the message: "Florida: The Sunshine State--but not if you're Black"?
Lincoln Alexander joins The Nancy Lockhart Show to discuss the case of his ex wife - Marissa Alexander. Lincoln and Marissa have two children together. Marissa re married and while pregnant, Marissa Alexander was battered by her husband - a long distance trucker. The attacker was not a stranger but, her husband. &nb
As the country reels from the outcome of the Jordan Davis case and national conversations abound on the need to repeal Stand Your Ground laws, the Florida Legislature is steadily working to expand the law. We are left stunned and bewildered as we see ill-conceived bills on the threatened use of force hurtle towards passage with bipartisan support. Over the past two weeks, both houses of the Legislature have voted overwhelmingly to expand Stand Your Ground by approving CS/CS/HB 89 and SB 448, t
