Our MANAGEMENT MAGICIANS™ series is dedicated to the “magic” that a talented manager is able to create. Our topic is, “Critical thinking staff or obedient staff? Pick only one.”
Who cares? “No. 1 Critical Thinking (found in 9 out of the 10 most in-demand jobs)” (http://www.forbes.com/sites/meghancasserly/2012/12/10/the-10-skills-that-will-get-you-a-job-in-2013/)
What is it? Critical thinking: The objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/critical-thinking) Obedience: Compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another’s authority:
What’s the problem? "A survey of HR professionals [...] found that a full 70 percent of employees with a high school education were deficient in critical thinking skills. Even among employees with a four-year college education, 9 percent were deficient in critical thinking skills, [...] and only 28 percent were rated excellent critical thinkers. (Critical Thinking Means Business: Learn to Apply and Develop the NEW #1 Workplace Skill, By Judy Chartrand, Ph.D., Heather Ishikawa, MA, & Scott Flander)
“Critical thinking can’t just be switched on. It may be asking too much of people who have been nurtured and rewarded in an environment where, as one soldier turned civil servant put it, "the lines are your friends . . . it’s safe within the lines . . . stay within the lines." To suddenly change their thinking habits, therefore, we have to provide students an environment where thinking skills can be learned, and then practiced in realistic situations that are otherwise safe and supportive.” (http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/army/critical/roy.htm)

A properly managed and motivated staff can take a company or business to the next level. If companies were able to tap into the power that lies within their employees by earning their active engagement, the productivity of the company could be through the roof! According to Gallup, engaged employees "work with passion and feel a profound connection to their company." Unfortunately, it seems these days that not enough companies spend the time necessary on staffing management.

Pretty basic and with a staff of around 20 or so writers we don't want this show to drag on forever.
God addresses the situation we read about in last night's reading: To silence grumblers, God staged a demonstration to prove who his chosen is. All 12 tribes of Israel brought one wooden staffs to the Tabernacle, and God said that the one which had a remarkable change was the staff of His chosen leader.
Why did God do it? To put a stop to the nonsense of people doubting who God's chosen leaders were.
I think what this shows is God's complete willingness to communicate to us in ways we can understand.

Jack Shepherd is running for Minnesota senate as an Independence candidate. He is concerned about how members of the minority community are being marginalized and excluded from a fair playing field of economic stimulus.
Shepard says, “Blacks in Minnesota's Hennepin County are 9.1 times more likely to be convicted for marijuana possession than Whites. The long-term collateral costs escalate significantly. Such disparities strip black community wealth and exacerbate equity gaps for individuals and neighborhoods in communities of color. “
Shepard wanted to send a message to the black community of the Twin Cities and called radio station KMOJ-FM. Join us for this and more...
