My People Are Destroyed For Lack of Knowledge

    in Politics Conservative

Hosea 4:6 kind of seemed appropriate as I looked at some of the stories I'm going to talk about today.  As we look at what is going on in the country and the world for that matter, to a lot of us there's a number of things people stand for, defend, advocate, etc. that just don't make sense.  Today I'll be looking at 3 examples of that on our supposed epicenters of knowledge, colleges and universities. I'll take a look at why students and faculty at St. Louis University flipped out over a statue.  Also, what kind of door are we opening when we start allowing "transgender students" admission into all girls colleges?  That's starting to happen.  Who are colleges and universities favoring in California?  Here's a hint- it's not legal citizens.  And finally, more fun from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to share as well.  That's the show today at 4:30 Eastern time and archived after that.

Marie-Antoinette and the Fersen Legend, Part II

    in History

Welcome to Episode 2 of Tea at Trianon Radio, dedicated to discussing the life and times of Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France and Navarre. Your hostess is Elena Maria Vidal, the author of four historical novels, including TRIANON and MADAME ROYALE. In this our second broadcast we will again be talking about the truth behind the legend of Queen Marie-Antoinette's romance with the Swede Count Axel von Fersen. The legend has been featured in novels, films and even many works of non-fiction. But is there any historical evidence of an affair? Did the Queen really love Fersen? What were her feelings for her husband Louis XVI? Such questions and more will be explored  based upon scholarship, both old and new. We will not be taking calls today but do email Elena a question or a comment at emvidal@planetrussell.net. And what are the 3 rules? Be polite, be polite, be polite.
Tea at Trianon Radio is brought to you by Mayapple Books in St. Michaels, Maryland, dedicated to publishing Modern Classics. Please visit Mayapple Books. Much of what we will be discussing today can be found on Elena's Tea at Trianon Blog and will also be included in her new non-fiction book on Marie-Antoinette entitled Marie-Antoinette, Daughter of the Caesars, to be published in September 2015 by Mayapple Books.

OBAP 's ACE Academy and Remembering James Jamesie Brewster

    in Culture

Welcome OBAP (Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals)  Aviation Career Education Academy (ACE). OBAP ACE Academies are co-sponsored with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other select organizations or institutions.

Their academies include many interesting educational activities and field trips. During an OBAP academy, students can expect to participate in activities that feature STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) components. They also include trips to aviation related facilities and receive tours of areas the general public normally never see. Also, their academies offer students the opportunity to perform actual flights in a general aviation aircraft. Traditionally, these flights are easily the highlights of a student's experience.

    *********

Born on St. Croix in 1929, James Jamesie Brewster is known throughout the Caribbean as the undisputed King of Scratch Band Music. He is known for his humorous, provocative and playful ompositions and for his lively performances. He has performed throughout the Caribbean and in Europe and has recorded a number of albums over the past fifty years.

Surprisingly, when Jamesie was younger, his father only allowed him to play percussion and not guitar. Jamesie was determined to prove to his father that he was capable of playing guitar and so made his own out of a sardine can and a piece of white pine lumber.

With a hand-carved keyboard and key-head and strings made out of twine from an old sack of flour, this guitar has become his signature instrument. In the six decades that have followed, Jamesie has continued to use this type of guitar when performing and recording music, although not exclusively.

Jamesie is a Crucian from the instant he wakes up and in the way he eats, dresses, sits, smokes, talks. He makes kitchen implements out of mahogany, makes musical instruments out of food tins, makes melee out of news.

    St. Joan de Lestonnac

    in Religion

Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

St. Joan de Lestonnac was born in Bordeaux, France, in 1556. She married at the age of seventeen. The happy marriage produced four children, but her husband died suddenly in 1597. After her children were raised, she entered the Cistercian monastery at Toulouse. Joan was forced to leave the Cistercians when she became afflicted with poor health. She returned to Bordeaux with the idea of forming a new congregation, and several young girls joined her as novices. They ministered to victims of a plague that struck Bordeaux, and they were determined to counteract the evils of heresy promulgated by Calvinism. Thus was formed the Congregation of the Religious of Notre Dame of Bordeaux. In 1608, Joan and her companions received the religious habit from the Archbishop of Bordeaux. Joan was elected superior in 1610, and many miracles occurred at her tomb. She was canonized in 1949 by Pope Pius XII.
