We don't have to look very deep or far to see the divisiveness generated by religions throughout the world. The study of comparative religions teaches us that truth exists in many forms but people still insist that their beliefs and practices are the absolute truth. Tune in this week as Lisa Jones and I discuss the dysfunction often see in spirituality and religion. We all agree that there is a ‘sense of the sacred’ in the human experience—that there's something more than our limited sense of self and we can participate in it. However, this expansive knowing is limited by the ready-made answers in religion or the phobias of self-inquiry. Tune in as we discuss a healthy spirituality that opens us to greater intimacy and connection with ourselves and the Universe.
ENVISION THIS: A move from religious dogma to spirituality would have profound effects on our culture
Author, Alan John Cooper, notes: “Over the last 50 or 55 years, since baby boomers such as I enter teenage-hood, we’ve begun to see a significant downturn in church attendance, But there’s a growing spiritual hunger in terms of environmental awareness, human rights – nationally or internationally - and social consciousness.”
His novel, The SECOND, a work of profound and moving secular spirituality, explores the socio-political ramifications of the difference between spirituality and religion. It is based on Alan’s years of research, delving into the whys of dogmatic religious belief in order to expose “the hypocrisy of evangelicalism…“While the book is fiction, it does take a piece of bark out of those religious fundamentalists.”
It also contains an exciting story line and deep analysis of human character. In The SECOND, we follow the protagonist, a vibrant French Canadian, Chantelle, who promotes a spirituality of principles and not dogma. Embracing her activism, she moves across the U.S. and Canada, balancing a rocky romance with an aspiring, half-Jewish architect, and a connection to a New York organization with a hate-based agenda kept secret from her until too late.
Alan started writing after being struck by an impaired driver and incurring a severe brain injury. His first book, Brain Injury, was released to great acclaim in 2006. His articles on spiritual issues have appeared in several Canadian publications.

So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ... 2 Peter 2:1-25

The New Essenes is a gathering of ordinary people practicing deep introspection as a way to solve everyday problems. Our inquiry is based on the idea that the Word is alive and that the Language is where our Power lives: communication is not what is said and done, but the result of what is said and done.
By joining in and coming back, we increasingly benefit from the distilled essence of an ultimate method of inquiry, based on Sacred Geometry and known as the Path of XPR.
Our meetings last one-hour & are structured as follows:
1. The first 5 minutes: Welcoming, Checking In. taking a moment of silence.
2. The next 10 minutes: Ritual readings.
3. The last 45 minutes: Introduction of a topic. Group Sharing & Inquiry, Summary / Ritual Closing.
