All A's for these Young Warriors Battling HIV in School!

    in Health

    ABOUT THE SHOW

It is a known fact the USA gets a big fat “F” for poor sex education in schools! Let’s face it, the CDC states that 1 out of every 4 new HIV infections reported is a young human life between the ages of 13 and 24! Regardless of your beliefs in sex education (abstinence only or more comprehensive approaches) this nation is facing a serious public health crisis and something has to be done about it! So we are bringing to you two amazing  young high school leaders who are paving the way for HIV prevention and awareness in their high school! Attention school administrators and educators across the nation: you might just learn something and start an HIV Awareness Club in your school! We will talk about issues facing teens and we will offer some profound, successful solutions! So get ready! Pack your lunch (or in this case dinner) and join us on February 7, 2016 - 9 PM (EST) / 8 PM (CST), because we are all going back to school!

    ABOUT OUR GUESTS

Ewuraba Annan and Jimmy Demiro are the co-Presidents of the Staten Island Technical High School HIV/AIDS Awareness Club! Under their dedicated leadership, the members of this club work to educate students about safer sex, while simultaneously working to eradicate HIV-related stigma! Every year they are tasked with bringing in speakers who are living with HIV to share personal experiences. These students, while on their way out to college to continue their mission to empower youth to make healthier life choices, will share their experiences as co-Presidents of their school’s HIV Awareness club, share their insight about what’s really happening “behind closed doors” and what they believe are the solutions needed to change the public health crisis of HIV.

Another Fork in the Road: Responsible Resolutions Cam Compton & Lisa Dryer

    in Education

Brain injury survivors, Lisa Dryer and Cam Compton join me to discuss reasonable and responsible and realistic resolutions in the new year. Cam and Lisa both are challenged by many health issues. Lisa is living with Multiple Sclerosis, (MS.) and Cam had a stroke nearly four years ago. Their debilitating illnesses take a toll on each of their lives. Were going to find out how Cam and Lisa approach resolutions in the new year, how they decide if they are reasonable challenges, and how they attack their illnesses to make their lives better.

Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College plans, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slip from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating. But as Yogi Berra once said, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." Life is all about choices!
