Grades of Green – Verte 2015 Fundraiser

    in Current Events

Our guest this morning is Emily Gee, Marketing and Movement Manager for

    Grades of Green.

Emily has a passion to create environmental change in our community, and feels

the best way to do this is through our students. Emily began interning with

Grades of Green in 2009, and was originally drawn to the nonprofit because of its

core values and mission. Truly inspired by the passion of the Directors and

motivated by the energy of the school communities, she feels Grades of Green’s

dedication to instilling environmental values is vital to affect environmental

change. A recent University of Southern California graduate, she double majored

in Public Relations and Political Science with a minor in Environmental Science

and now holds a masters degree in Strategic Public Relations. Emily worked in Los

Angeles south central public schools through the Joint Education Project (2008-

2012) and continues to help with after school tutoring and mentorship programs.

Emily has conducted environmental field research abroad in Belize (2009) and

China (2011). Her work on environmental advertising is published in the American

    Political Science Association Journal (2012).

This morning, we’re going to learn about Grades of Green and talk about their big

    annual fundraiser, Verte 2015.

    Robert G. Freeman~Retired Police Officer/Experiencer

    in Paranormal

    Robert Freeman

From Robert Freeman, "I was once a well conditioned and idealistic young police officer who wanted to help and protect people and after many years in that profession I came to understand things are not quite what there seemed. Unltimately my police career ended and I am now a retired policeman in a continual fight for my entitlements as a sufferer of PTSD and the clinical depression which accompanies that change in my human function. I am an Australian male born in 1960 in a large rural town in the south eastern area of this country. My father was a sportsman and trucking contractor while mum was a nurse prior to the commencement of the family. I am second of four children and the eldest of three brothers. I joined the police cadets as a 16 year old in 1977. I was a country boy and city life was completely foreign to me. The saving grace was we lived in an old 1930's hotel near the main railway station in Melbourne. I loved the cadet training. I excelled in most all the aspects of this training and while I completed and graduated high school from the cadet academy I was also voted as the Senior Cadet. My first real notable experience came in the latter part of 1977 when after we had returned from a tour of Tasmania. I had a strange experience there I had what I would describe as my 'Jesus' experience. This was about the 20th August 1977.  I felt there was a presence in the room (I was alone in my room at the academy this weekend after our trip, and I felt the urge to give my truth to Jesus Christ). I was not a religious person as such and I was not made to attend church as a boy growing up.  The story about how my police career came to a halt and what transpired during the period leading to that and the occurrences which followed are intertwined and quite interesting. Suffice it to say my life was in the process of an irreversible transition".

Around Mackinac Island and Destination Speed Dating at #SATW

    in Travel

Mackinac Island, named by Native Americans for its shape as a turtle, is a northern Michigan island made famous by the Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour movie, "Somewhere in Time".  Just as the Victorian-period movie reflected, Mackinac Island has maintained its old world charm.  Many of the buildings reflect Victorian architecture and there are only two ways to travel around the 9 mile island--by bicycle or horse drawn carriage.  Join World Footprints as wel explore the island by horse drawn carriage today.

There are only two ways to travel to the island from the mainland--small plane or ferry.  World Footprints had the pleasure of meeting Chris Shepler of Shepler's Ferry on one such journey between the island and the lower peninsula of Michigan.  Chris shared the imporance of his family's legacy and Shepler Ferry's philanthropic mission.  Chris also gave Tonya and opportunity to play Captain as she navigated the waters of Lake Huron at the helm.

Finally, World Footprints had a chance to meet representatives from a number of East Coast destinations at a Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) conference.  We did a bit of speed dating with each travel destination to discover the special things that each offers to travelers.  Pack your bags and stay tuned to see what adventures await.

    Grenadine Islands under the sea

    in Travel

The Grenadines are a haven for scuba divers, some of the world’s most spectacular aquatic scenery and much more.  Our first stop takes us to Bequia (pronounced Beck-way), the largest of the Grenadines.  Fresh from a dive at Devils Table with her dive buddy Cathy Sachs of Dive Bequia, Tonya and Cathy will recount their dive and why Bequia offers an unusual diving experience.  Cathy will also share how this island has changed her life. Then we’ll visit Bequia’s Park Bay, home to the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary, where a native retired skin-diving fisherman affectionately known as “Brother King”, has spent  more than a decade of his life to helping to conserve the endangered hawksbill turtle.  Brother King and his helpers monitor the beaches and nests here to protect mother turtles from poachers.  They also care for the baby hatchlings in the sanctuary during the turtles’ vulnerable years of life. Many of the hatchlings are released into a protective area just south of Bequia called Tobago Cays—our next stop.  Lesroy Noel is the Park Ranger for the Tobago Cays Marine Park which lies in the southern Grenadines.  The area comprises of five isles bordered by a giant horseshoe reef and teems with wildlife and wild sea turtles.  Finally, we’ll travel just a short distance by boat to the private Palm Island where we’ll catch up with the island’s resident artist and (retired) medical professional Dr. Patrick Chevallier.  Patrick is one of the world’s premiere undersea artists and his character is as charming and colorful as his artwork.

Crazy gets crazier. What are you doing to get ready for what's next?

    in Politics Conservative

World economies show signs of running out of steam, China's increasingly testy about enforcing new territorial claims in the South Chinia Sea, ISIS keeps gobbling up more territory in the Middle East, with Iraq taking the brunt of it recent weeks...

    But the Obama administration?

It seems more interested in pursuing what it alleges is corruption in world soccer.

No, there's been nothing to, by itself, give us a huge whack on the head this week, but when you connect the dots, you should see things continue to sprial in an evermore downward direction.

2015 isn't have over yet, but it's already delivered some real game-changers.

We'll tackle some of the new data points, and update on preps to get ready.

If you've got any ideas how to get ahead of this menacing curve, we'd like to hear from you as well.
