I came up with this topic through watching a sermon about forgiveness. The pastor talked about guilt and how it is an oxymoron to be a guity Christian. God has been drilling that into me recently because he knows how much unforgiveness to ourselves and essentially others messes up our walk with him.
There is a good thing about guilt that brings sorrow when we are convicted and we come to God in repentance, but there is a bad type of guilt that brings a different type of sorrow. I have experienced both, worldly sorrow before I came to Christ and unfortunately both as a Christian.
2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."

Isn't the heart where we experience joy and sorrow? How can it not be? Is not the cup that holds your wine, the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven? When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow is the same source of your joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced. Legitimate pleasure: Anything that refreshes you without distracting you from your final goal.
Illicit Pleasure: Any pleasure which violates the sacred right of another. –Ravi Zacharias “The Problem of Pleasure”
Sin: According to Susanna Wesley (John Wesley’s mother) “If anything weakens your reasoning, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes away your relish of spiritual things; in short, if anything increases the authority and the power of the flesh over the spirit, that to you becomes sin, however good it is in itself."
1 John 2:16 (KJV) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Ecclesiastes 2: 8-11, 22-23 (KJV)
8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.
9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.
10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.
11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
22 For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?
23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like." ~ Lao Tzu
