Ralph has been involved in the roofing and building industry since 1978 and renewable technologies since 1999 .In his career, he has re-roofed millions of square feet in the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and Governmental sectors all over North America. His passion for sustainability was formed from his early ideals of stewardship, minimalism and legacy, sharpened by five years in the late 80's and early 90's, working in sub-sahara Africa.
Ralph is one of the industry's early innovators in the green roof industry. He developed the GreenSave calculator, the green roof industry's first financial benefit calculator and was part of the ASTM sub-committee that wrote the first five national ASTM standards for green roofs. He completed the first ever green roof installation on a Presidential Library, with the completion of the William Jefferson Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2008 and an award winning design on the National Institutes of Health, in Bethsesda, MD Involved in distributed solar since 2008, Ralph developed over 3.5 mW of rooftop solar during the throngs of the great recession, from 2008-2010,
From 2010-2012, Ralph was the Executive Director for Sustainability for a global roofing manufacturer, responsible for all policy and strategic sustainability initiatives, world-wide. In late 2012, Ralph, along with his wife, formed Ark Investments to focus on micro investment opportunities in sustainability, in rural and local communities. To date investments have been made in sustainable animal husbandry, music and land development. Earlier this spring, Ralph joined NWES, as the Sr. Director of Business Development to again pursue the idea of rooftop solar, this time with a ROI financial focus.
Jennette Gayer coordinates policy development, research, and legislative advocacy for Environment Georgia. She is based in Atlanta and organizes around a number of issues to bring cleaner air, water and open spaces to Georgia.
She serves on the board of Citizens for Progressive Transit, a statewide group dedicated to increasing public transportation, and is a member of the Beltline Tax Advisory District Advisory Council.
Previously, she directed field campaigns to build a million solar roofs and cap global warming for Environment Georgia's sister organization, Environment California. She also worked as a Consumer Advocate with CALPIRG, where she sat on the state of California's Bureau of Automotive Repair and helped to found Angelenos for Equitable Access to Technology a media reform community group.
Ms. Gayer grew up in Virginia and graduated from the College of William and Mary.
Bill Radvak joined American Vanadium as President and CEO in January, 2010. He spearheaded the company’s transition from a mineral exploration company into a vertically integrated energy storage company with the execution of the Master Sales Agreement for North America with Gildemeister to market the world’s leading CellCube vanadium redox flow energy storage system.
Bill Radvak received an engineering degree from the University of British Columbia. Previously, he was a Founder and CEO of Response Biomedical, a publicly listed medical device company. Mr. Radvak led Response Biomedical from its evolution to a 90-employee, sales and manufacturing company.
Jeff Cantin with Solar Alternatives join us to discuss the lastest move by the Louisiana Public Service Commission in regards to commissioning a study on the the costs and benefits of solar energy net metering.

Louie Miller is the director of the Mississippi Chapter of the Sierra Club, which has been working to protect the health of communities and the environment in the Magnolia State for more than two decades. Louie has led cutting-edge campaigns and has built powerful, diverse coalitions of community groups, working with some of the South’s most celebrated community and environmental justice advocates in the process.
Miller has earned national attention for his work challenging Mississippi Power’s Kemper County coal plant, the only coal plant to break ground during the Obama Administration and likely the last coal plant that will ever be built in the United States. From the beginning, Louie challenged the plant for being “dirty, expensive, and unnecessary.”
Louie lives outside Jackson, Miss., on a farm with several beloved dogs and enjoys trips to the beach with his family.
Paula Mints is the Founder and Chief Market Research Analyst of the global solar market research firm SPV Market Research. Ms. Mints began her solar market research career in 1997 with Strategies Unlimited. In 2005 she left Strategies Unlimited for Navigant where she continued her practice until October 2012, when she founded SPV Market Research. Ms. Mints provides classic solar market research products based on primary research and focused on the supply and demand sides of the solar industry and its technologies. Recently she has begun conducting end user research to discover what PV system residential buyer/lessee/PPA customers really think about the selling/installing process. She publishes often with Renewable Energy World and Renewable Energy Focus. Her chapter, Overview of Photovoltaic Production, Markets and Perspectives, was published in the Fraunhofer/Elsevier book Advances in Photovoltaics Volume 1, edited by Dr. Gerhard Willeke and Dr. Eicke Weber. Ms. Mints also speaks at several high profile conferences a year, including the IEEE PVSC, the EU PVSEC, Intersolar Europe and US as well as others. All of
Ms. Mints is on the Intersolar Europe and Intersolar US conference committees as well as the Renewable Energy World Conference committee and the SPI (Solar Power International) conference committees. She also serves on the expert committee of the EU PV Platform. She earned her MBA at San Jose State University in 1999.
First show, I just wanted to take the time to discuss my goals and hopes for "The UnRaveling Mind", this episode contains a little glimpse into whats to come. I go into detail about the type of guests I am hoping to have, as well as what I hope we can all gain from having them on, as you will soon learn, I want this show to benifit all who are a part of it, the guest , the listener, and even myself stand to gain so much from this, and I am very excited. Joel's path to remote system design can best be described as a continuum. After a successful career in the computer aided design and graphics industry Joel founded and managed his own construction firm designing and building his first solar system in 2000. Since then, his interest and excitement about solar power led him to design, manage and build hundreds of solar projects.
In addition to running his own company and co-founding Bright Harvest Solar, he has managed the installation divisions of both local and national solar integrators.
